RIP George Carlin
Today, I'll be mourning him not only as someone who provided me with entertainment, but also as a champion of our freedom of speech.

One Republican for Obama, Many More to Go
Over the past few weeks, I've been working on a paper entitled "Why I Support Barack Obama"
It's a 5-page document in which I discuss the following:
1) My background, family, education, and career (basically, an "About Me";
2) Barack Obama - the person;
3) Barack Obama's policy positions; and
4) Responses to the nasty smear campaign (mostly a fleshed-out version of the campaign's official smear-fighting campaign.
I e-mailed the document to everyone in my e-mail address book, including several Republicans; and I received the following response from a good friend of mine from law school. He was a hardcore Republican, one of the few who could keep me on my toes in a political debate, and I spent many hours during our time at school debating politics with him... Here's the response in full:

Eric,
Thanks for sending the e-mail, I really enjoyed your points and how eloquently you presented them. I have followed the primaries, both Republican and Democrat very closely since they began. For the first time in my adult life I voted for a Democrat in the Missouri primary and I voted for Obama. I'll be voting for him in November.
Living here in XXXXXXXXXX (edited to respect his privacy), I was shocked at how many people, including my friends, believed in some of these internet rumors that were started up about Obama. I actually had one of my friends say that he wouldn’t vote for Obama because he wouldn’t put his hand over his heart during the pledge. I was astonished to find that one of my friends would be that naïve to believe that this was true.
Obama captivates me, and I think our country needs to be captivated by hope instead of captivated by news of rising gas prices, rising food prices, war, plummeting housing markets, etc. I will admit though, I am hoping that he will surround himself with a great cabinet and I hope that cabinet does not include Hillary Clinton.
Anyway, just wanted to tell you I enjoyed the e-mail.
Take care buddy,
XXXX

This is from a guy who I never believed would vote for a Democrat, and he has and will vote for Obama. I guess the point of this post is this: Election Day is fast approaching. Keep fighting the good fight. Engage in polite, positive political discussion. Don't worry about putting the opposition on its heels with negative attacks on their party or their candidate. Present the case for Senator Obama the way he would want you to -- honestly and truthfully -- and you can and will bring more people into the fold.
YES WE CAN!

Ted Kennedy Airlifted to Mass. General Hospital
Sen. Ted Kennedy was just airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital with an emergency "undisclosed illness." His press office is not returning calls at the moment.
Can someone at TPM please get on this story?

That Hillary Show
First, a little introduction: I'm a 27-year-old attorney from the city of St. Louis, MO (Yes, we CAN... deliver a swing state for Obama). I work in state government. Considering both my education level (J.D.) and my government salary (a pittance), that I'm apparently in both the Obama and Clinton demographic. I'm a Southern (originally from Southeast MO, south of the Mason-Dixon line) young, educated, white, and hard-working... I'm proud to say that I've had an Obama sticker on my car and a sign in my window since he opened a St. Louis headquarters, and I've been named a precinct captain for Young Lawyers for Obama.
Anyway, I just thought I'd make an introduction. Expect more comments and posts from me in the near future. Now, I'll leave you with a humorous YouTube site that I discovered this morning...

'For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes. But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course that’s Moses, not Jesus. I haven’t heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere.
"Blessed are the merciful" in a courtroom? "Blessed are the peacemakers" in the Pentagon? Give me a break!'
