"Green Panthers" because Progressives shouldn't be named something that is also an insurance company.
Yellow Dogs, Blue Dogs...I have been trying to think of a new name for Progressive Reps, Senators and constituents, because Progressive is the name of an insurance company and somewhat undercuts our cause, I think.
What about Green Panthers? I think the cat reference gets at the idea that progressives vote Democratic because they find it convenient and could go Green if the Democratic party fails to suit.
I also like it that the inherent similarity to the Black Panther name will bug the crap out of the right. Let's let them fill the blogosphere with wild speculation about us rather than the other way round.
Catchy enough? What do you think?

Great idea. I turned green yesterday.
But why not become the health and labor party or the health and peace party or something that describes how we are DIFFERENT from today's Democratic Party.

How about the Lost In The Wilderness Party?

It was looking at your avatar and wondering if you would change your name that started me thinking about it!
I was thinking about ways to describe people who were still in the Democratic Party (like the Blue Dog Democrats). I wasn't thinking of a name for a whole new party. But now that you mention it.....

It could be a faction in the party that eventually starts a new party or it could be a new party that might eventually coopt the Democratic Party. I agree that it needs some identity. I think it could have a great agenda.
Universal healthcare -- enthusiastic support of labor -- a devotion to peace and social issues --- civil liberties and human rights -- environmentalism. There are just so many issues that the Democratic Party just gives lip service to. I don't really like the Greens because I think they don't pay enough attention to economic issues that impact the working class but they might be coopted into something a bit more populist on the left.
I'm dreaming. I know. But the Democratic Party just doesn't represent me anymore. Giving up on every issue just doesn't seem to be a healthy way to go. Makes me to angry. I'd rather have a positive agenda even if it just presents ideas and alternatives and sells a different message.
I was listening to Hardball and their take on it all is that the lunatics at the townhalls have "taught the left a lesson that they better settle for what they can get".
I'm fed up with being "taught a lesson". I want to teach some lessons (and I don't want to do it with a gun in my pocket and intimidation tactics). I want to be able to sell an alternative message.
