I Just Got a Robo-call from Sarah Palin...

...and now I have the heebie-jeebies.

Tomorrow's the big runoff election here in Georgia, and over the last few days we've gotten a lot of robo-calls, from both Saxby Chambliss and Jim Martin, as well as from surrogates such as John McCain, Michelle Obama, and Bill Clinton.  Surprisingly, none of the calls have been particularly nasty; both camps seem pretty worried about turnout, and they're imploring people to get out to the polls.

Also of potential interest, and related to the runoff: I was given the hard sell by a commenter on my other blog, trying to sway me to vote for Chambliss so the new administration would have an effective check in the Senate, using the rationale that I should vote Republican so the minority has a voice.  I disagree with that rationale; you can find the original post here, and another exchange here, as, since I disagreed with the commenter, I quite obviously revealed myself to be an idealistic Democratic dupe.

*Just now, as I was typing this entry, I got another robo-call, this one from Barack Obama, which was highly effective in counteracting the Palin-induced heebie-jeebies.  Thanks, Mr. President-elect.

I've gotten the robocalls from Max Cleland, both Obamas, and Bill Clinton. While I'm generally annoyed with robocalls, I have to admit it was a bit thrilling to get one today from Barack. :)

Anyway, the only Repub call I've gotten was from Marilyn Musgrave.....WTF? The ironic thing was she spent the entire call complaining about all of the outside money that poured into CO to help defeat her. Who knew her and Palin and McCain were GA residents?

I hope she didn't crawl out of your telephone...

Hi! This is Sarah! ..... Palin! ...Silly! We've got to come up with solutions that are true to our times and true to this moment. And that's going to be our job. And Saxby Chambliss is that moment and the job we need to do. I think the basic principle that Saxby has a role to play in kickstarting an economy that has ground to a halt is sound. I think our basic principle, that this is a free market system and that that has worked for us, that it creates an innovation and risk taking, I think that's a principle that we've got to hold to as well. Saxby Chambliss holds to this I'm thinking, too. To reduce your wait time at your polling place, all registered Republicans will cast their ballots on Wednesday December 3. Vote for Saxby Chambliss on December 3rd.

Nicely done!

If I got a call from Sarah Palin, I would throw my telephone out the window, just as a matter of reflex.

Although some have been criticizing Obama for not going to Georgia, it's nice to hear that he is helping out by providing assistance through the robo-call you mentioned. I'm looking forward to seeing the election results. Go Martin!

I'm looking forward to seeing the results, too. I'm a little concerned about turnout here, though. When I went to vote this morning, there were only a handful of people there, and that seems to be prevailing throughout the day, I've read.

I'm of the opinion that runoffs conducted in this manor are less than democratic, in that the outcome is going to be decided by far fewer people than those that came out on election day in November.
