Week of October 5, 2008 - October 11, 2008

Be careful what you wish for...

Today, I found myself checking out an old article in National Review written just after the conventions. The article was titled "2008 II - Hardly" written by Allen Guelzo on Sept 29th. The thesis of the article was that Barrack Obama is nothing like Abraham Lincoln (or, they are alike the same way the author is like old Abe in the sense that they both have two ears, a nose, etc.)

Here is the penultimate paragraph of this article:
Comparing Obama to Lincoln would have meaning only if Obama were facing a specific national crisis, one that had built for 30 years, been galvanized by regional political blocs, and threatened to result in war, the breakup of the union, and violent assault on federal military installation.
Someone has to remind the authors of such articles, becareful what you wish for, you might just get it. Right now, it looks very likely that the junior senator from Illinois will be faced with a national crisis 30 years in building. It will not be military based, but aside from that, you will have every chance to compare Lincoln to Obama for the next few years.
