I love Al Franken to tears. He's intelligent, progressive, and he has a sense of humor. He has to win the vote from anyone who pays attention to issues and character, as opposed to coming from a preset ideological point of view.

What ABOUT that ideological point of view? On my bookshelf I have a copy of the book "The Nazi Seizure of Power". In the earlier days before Hitler was brought on board by Hindenberg, he had to stop people from opposing him, which he and his cronies did with the Brown Shirts - attack thugs who would beat up anyone who disagreed with Herr Hitler. Ms. Bachmann is a modern-day BROWN SHIRT AGITATOR. She gives her Brown Shirt followers all the propaganda narratives her thugs should believe. The LEAST ATTEMPT to hold people like Bachmann accountable would see their position collapse as the reactionary thuggery that it is. Therefore since NOBODY IN THE MEDIA will call people like Bachmann on statements similar to "one equals zero because otherwise our country will fail", you KNOW that your MEDIA is 100.00% SOLD OUT TOO. And that's how Goebbels Rove and company intend to take this country over. If you want to talk about something UNAMERICAN, I would say that FASCISM IN OUR TIME is UNAMERICAN and that it should be CONFRONTED and ERADICATED.

Sent to Bachmann at bachmann.house.gov (had to pretend to have an MN zipcode first.)

quote

I can't tell you how sorry I am that our country allows propaganda shills like you to pretend that you're in the least concerned for the future of this country. Given the extent to which you lie about Obama, you cannot be trusted in public office. Your party is bankrupt and you should resign if you're willing to lie and cheat to win.

Let's hope the voters see through you as well.

Bill Ayers is an American Hero, unless you're on the side of the Fascists in this country.

Powell's best bet is to just shut up and leave us alone until and unless he wants to write a "Mea Culpa" book. Who needs an endorsement from a War Criminal? What BS world do we live in to hear the words "honor" and "duty" being associated with this man? Someone else's Propaganda State - sure as hell not the world we understand.

I forgot my Lai, thanks - perhaps the cost of "rising through the ranks while Black" was in fact this silence and complicity. HONOR would have required Powell's RESIGNATION once he understood the Bush push for a useless meaningless war in Iraq. He should have resigned and said "I'm defending the Constitution against an unlawful seizure and manipulation of power to lead the country to a needless war" and then taken whatever hits that would follow. THAT would have been bravery and patriotism.

I'm profoundly discouraged that Powell will still be held up to Blacks as an example of "achievement". Yeah, you too can be a sold-out shill, the truth about you protected by the right-wing corporate media. How wonderful.

Now we get a 'complete' spectrum of "Black role models", from pimp and hustler to sold-out suit-wearing protofascists (Rice, Thomas.) Injury upon Insult. Compare these people to the likes of Barbara Lee, Maxine Waters, John Conyers, Cynthia McKinney. They're they ones who deserve our ear.

"First he would have been shunned by almost every Republican and many Democrats as well."

Colin Powell comes out and says "The Bush Administration is trying to lie you into an illegal and unnecessary war in Iraq" and he would be SHUNNED BY DEMOCRATS? What, do they work for the Republicans? Sounds like it.

Colin Powell is toast. He had the chance to out the lies and he did not. $3,000,000,000,000 and 4,200 dead soldiers (and 855,000 dead Iraqis) later is too late to redeem yourself, I'm sorry. He has yet to apologize for LYING AT THE UN so far as I know.

Like Nixon, he can write a book, but please leave him at his retirement ranch, shall we?

Why are we seeing advertisements for the National Guard on this site? I thought that was a ticket to Iraq, why don't you just let the Army advertise then? And Boeing, while you're at it. Yeesh.

You might wonder why there is not a point system to show how depraved either party is: start at 100, and deduct points for every piece of character assassination and "guilt by association" BS either party hands out. When Republicans reach ZERO, ask the public why they would even think to vote for people whose behavior comes out of a garbage can? If they can't win on their MERITS and they can't win with their POLICIES, there's no reason to let them win through intimidation, scabrous reasoning and (concocted) character attacks.

In the 3rd debate I recall Obama making a fairly long statement attacking a McCain position, and the moment McCain responded, he answered NONE of Obama's charges but proceeded to say "well Obama this" and "well Obama that." That sort of behavior has to be ARRESTED (you interrupt the speaker) and CONFRONTED (you remind the speaker to answer the question asked and not to introduce herrings.)

Isn't it rather obvious now, cycle after cycle, that you of party X should not badmouth other members of party X? If candidate #A1 says candidate #A2 is a damned fool, then party B will reply that quote endlessly. Forget that the quotes are "dated"; if I say you're an idiot today, how can I say tomorrow that you're NOT an idiot, and be believed? So the Democrats can thank themselves for the ammunition they've given the Republicans.

The Right Wing in this country enjoys watching people miss all the little details that help them think straight, and the media enjoy it too (it makes them money.) Our culture is reduced to people who reason like someone with an IQ of 80, and frankly my dear, you can sell such people anything if you try long enough.

I look forward to forensically refereed debates, so that when one candidate or another avoids a question and instead lurches into more attacks on the opponent, a loud buzzer sounds EEEEEEEEET! And the moderator INTERRUPTS the speaker to say things like "you're not answering the question" or "you're changing the subject." SHOW people how really poor the debates are when there are no rules to enforce processes of reason.

BTW: Bill Ayers was a hero and patriot of this nation when he was a member of the Weather Underground. You wouldn't understand this if you get your news from the TV, though. See the documentary "The Weather Underground" (has been aired on PBS once already.) The fact that the "right" refuses to grapple with what the Weathermen were doing back then just shows they have no sense of real history. If our nation continues to engage in needless illegal wars despite the majority of the public being opposed, then we need a resurgence of organizations like the Weathermen to start re-provoking the consciousness of ordinary Americans.

For that matter, Jeremiah Wright was right in what he said, but the propaganda veneer was pulled over that pretty quickly, with Obama disavowing, in essence, the informed Black struggle for self-determination.
