Health Care Dichotomy
Conservatives seem to be expressing two fears about health care reform:
1. The government will intrude into the patient-doctor relationship, interfering with things like end-of-life decisions.
2. The government will NOT intrude into the patient-doctor relationship, allowing things like legal abortions.
The first fear is especially peculiar, because it was conservatives who wanted the federal government to intrude into the end-of-life decisions of the Schiavo family.
The lesson I draw from this is that conservatives don't want the government intruding into your decisions as long as you make the decisions that conservatives approve of. If you make any other decision, well then the government will have to step in.
In which case, it's your own fault for not being more moral and sensible.

Good post. It is peculiar. From my coast, it appears there is an awful lot of misinformation and in some cases ignorance which is being translated into fear and a catharsis flood of anger about any number of things that is coming out when people who feel they've not had a chance to have any dialog or input attend these Town Hall Meetings. On one hand it is a process that elicits a great deal of anxiety from observers; on the other hand, it is a very interesting time to be alive.

There certainly is no consistency here. But there are no issues for conservatives. They just get 'groups' together, put electrodes on their heads and pitch lines, and analyze the responses....

Conservatives don't know what they want. They just don't want anything that Democrats want. They would rather pay $100 to an insurance company executive than $50 in taxes.
They just hate taxes! They hate government intervention! But boy, they scream like a stuck pig whenever they don't get their way, whichever side of the street it is coming from.
