For the first time in my life

I am proud to be an American citizen. Thank you all so much!

UPDATE:
Though I am very happy about yesterday, there is a lot of ambivalence here in California. For some, yesterday was a very mixed blessing. In my opinion, however, at least yesterday felt like two steps forward, one back, as opposed to the other way 'round.

Thank you. We should all feel a bit somber about this prop 8 vote. It is very sad. I am wondering what changes it in the future... an amendment to remove, revoke, etc. That's what I would focus on. No reason to give up.

Thanks.

The thing that's bugging me here is the large segment of people who voted for Obama and also yes on prop 8. With one hand, these people tear down a huge historic barrier. With the other, they erect a new one. It's like "well, we have to have some prejudice, so here's my new choice."

It's hard to understand this. Hopefully some day, prop 8 will look like Jim Crow laws to everyone, and we will look back on this day and shake our heads at the hypocrisy.

I understand the disappointment, yet, I think, one step at a time...

As President Elect Obama said last night 'all things are possible in America'.

It has taken a long time for this day to arrive... and clearly it took an exceptional, remarkable man who happens to be black and an america ready to fight for a better america to make this happen.

I think we need to evolve more as a country and then, I think we will shake our heads at our previous ignorance just as we may think of slavery, and not allowing blacks or women to vote etc. Acceptance will come, eventually barriers will fall.

Don't give up... this is just a setback along the way...
