Thanks for this post. Food issues and what Monsanto is up to unites the left and the right. I had Raj Patel on my radio show a year ago. He wrote "Stuffed and Starved" and is finishing another book on GMOs and just bad food practices.
There is a very bad bill called Lugar/Casey aka The Global Food Security Act that gives 7.7 Billion to Monsanto to test GMOs in Africa. The African farmers don't want it. They know what is happening in India and Iraq.

My right wing callers hate Monsanto and call it Monsatan. That's why I think our new third party should be the "Food First Party".

The Clintons couldn't pass health care reform because they passed NAFTA first and so they lost their base for everything else.

Max Baucus says that in order to get "pre-existing conditions" off insurance policies, the insurance companies have to make it up in volume. That volume is mandates. This bill will be a bag of crap tied with a very yellow ribbon.

What might work is the "Mad as Hell Docs" with their Care-A-Van going from Portland, Oregon to Washington, D.C. Joining Doctors on strike will be far more effective than us writing letters and wringing our hands. http://www.madashelldoctors.com/

I'll be at the Baucus office tomorrow at noon. Baucus has never been in touch with the people.

He also has the audacity to be holding a health summit to pin the blame on health care where it belongs--on fat poor people. From the Bozeman Chronicle:

"Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., is putting on a health summit in Bozeman Aug. 9 and 10, his office announced Monday.

The summit will be free and will feature world-class experts and top foundation and business leaders discussing ways to improve health and promote wellness in small communities across the state.

Speakers include Sally Jewell, president and CEO of REI; Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; and Neil Nicoll, president and CEO of YMCA.

“With diabetes, obesity, and heart disease plaguing communities throughout Montana, it is crucial that we gather together and brainstorm solutions to improve the overall health of Montanans,” Baucus said in the announcement. “This summit will focus on how to confront these challenges and promote healthy lifestyles.”"
