There She Blows, Miss America!!!

I just caught something at the Baltimore Sun. It is kind of a rehash of Rush Limbaugh by two of the reporters from Mediamatters.com. But it is short and hilarious.

The point of the article is that Rush is going to judge the 2010 Miss America Pageant.  After my diatribe against the late Grace Kelly, I just cannot pass up a chance to discuss the intersection of pageant fluff, women's rights and rush.

Some months ago I was laughing because rush was crying on the radio, whining on the radio, and complaining on the radio that women do not seem to like him. Hahahaa

Here is part of the article;

This is the man who famously declared that his cat has "taught" him "more about women than anything my whole life" because his cat is "smart enough to know she can't feed herself" and gets "loved," "adoration," "petted," and "fed," without having "to do anything for it." He has speculated that women "would love to be hired as eye candy" and has claimed that "[w]omen still live longer than men because their lives are easier."

Mr. Limbaugh frequently laments the "chickification" of society, particularly in government and the media. In his world, female media figures (some of whom are former Miss America Pageant winners) are "infobabes" or "anchorettes"; female professors are "professorettes"; the cable network MSNBC is dubbed "PMS- NBC," and female Cabinet secretaries find their title changed to "Sexretary."

He has shared with listeners his "pet name" for the National Organization for Women (NOW): "National Association of Gals" (his acronym: "NAG")....

On Pelosi he says: "Why, she can multitask. She can breastfeed, she can clip her toenails, she can direct the House."

Based on this abysmal record, it's hard to imagine what Miss America Pageant officials were thinking when they selected Mr. Limbaugh as a judge. © 2009, The Baltimore Sun  http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/oped/bal-op.limbaugh30oct30,0,3655374.story

I find it hilarious because I think the two deserve each other. When I was a kid and heard that idiot singing:

There she goes, Miss America.....

It was time to go outside and skate, or ride my bike or go over to Dave's house and have a smoke. Those vacuous teenage girls spouting their hope for world peace....

And its not any better today. That fascist winner last year (ex winner I guess) with the boob job whom Trump finally fired, is regularly seen giving speeches at RNC functions.

What about a national Ms. Chemistry Pageant? Or a Ms. Pre-Med Pageant? Or a Ms. Applied Mathematics Pageant?

No friggin bathing suits allowed; unless there is a swimming competition of course.

Push rush up on the podium, that is what I say!!! The repubs are in charge of vacuous contests for vacuous broads anyway.

THEY DESERVE EACH OTHER.

I used to work with a woman who was somehow involved with the Miss PA competition. She announced that Miss PA would be dropping by our office for a visit. On the appointed day I saw a very pretty girl in the reception area - very cute, indeed. I asked the receptionist, a pretty lady herself, if that had been Miss PA, and she said, no that was her daughter.

As it turned out Miss PA wasn't nearly as pretty as the receptionist's daughter (IMO). She did wear a lot more makeup, though.

There is a lesson there for all of us Donal. I need to start using more make up myself. Or just stop shaving.

I was mystified by the seeming 'disconnect' between what men want and what women want in a Miss America. Then I met a "Miss Wisconsin" in college, and I started to understand better.

The truth is - and maybe it's a good thing:

Men don't have anything to do with pageants.

These things are all driven by 'stage moms' who must have gotten some sense of approbation or approval or 'self esteem' from pageants, and then force their daughters into it. Whether the girls ever had a 'choice' to pageant or not, they're going to keep at this for as long as they can if they have the slightest success.

It's sort of like swimming competition - no one wants to see it, but kids want to do it, so you end up with swim meets.

It's important to remember that: Pageants, though described as 'sexist' have nothing to do with men. They're about women's needs - perhaps it's a need of theirs to rank beauty, when it's truly 'in the eye of the beholder.'

In any case, men really don't belong on these judge panels. Pageants are of, by and for women.

WOW. Elvis you remind me of these pictures of four year old girls and such with lip stick and makeup. This has been the subject of Law & Order episodes.

Kind of a kiddie porn thing. These moms have their kids performing their entire pre-teen and teen lives.

This is an interesting take, psychologically and socially.

I did see one spark of hope in all of this. I read that one contestant got down on the floor and did push ups when she discovered that she was not one of the final ten.

I was accused of being an old fogie today along with others here. I should think that the youth out there scoff at all of this pageantry as fluff.

At any rate, great comment.

Pageants are probably not 'liberating' in the '60's sense - or any sense really - but it's important to remember that what may have started out as a gimmick to bring people to Atlantic City has, in a sense, been 'co-opted' by the 'victims' of it.

In an era of girls gone wild videos clearly the pageant concept does not exist because of its appeal to men; it has none.

It doesn't even exist to garner good TV ratings - because nobody cares - the ratings have been terrible for years.

It exists to quench a desire within the contestants themselves. While it is clearly something that could be called "right wing" it isn't sexist. The women are aching to wear that precious crown.

It appeals to the "princess paradigm" - we may not like it - but then I don't like Republicans in general. But these GOP princesses will be marching around in the tiara for years to come - TV ratings - or evidence that anybody outside their circle cares - be damned.

This is somehow perfect, in that alternate-universe way that some of this society has at equating grotesque, manufactured plastic makeup with feminine beauty and oafish clumsiness with masculinity.

I had occasion to work with a (former) Miss America once. She was long past her pageant days, seemingly had her makeup troweled on and sanded down, and berated the makeup artist for having the nerve to be younger and prettier than her.

You can not sell this stuff as fiction.

user-pic
...seemingly had her makeup troweled on and sanded down, and berated the makeup artist for having the nerve to be younger and prettier than her.

You know Grouch, that just about says it all.

user-pic

I was there - I saw it and heard it.

user-pic

Well if Rush is the host that just about wraps up about everything I've ever thought was behind the MA pageant. The right wing. Rush is a sexist and apparently that's what it's all about.

user-pic

Pretty little packages brought to you by the same people that brought you the tax cuts for the rich, de facto segregation, law & order....

user-pic

Hmmm. You know, I read somewhere that the TV ratings for the Miss America pageant have been in the crapper for the past several years. Maybe the sponsors think having a certain bloviating conservative radio talk show personality hosting the event will bring in the NASCAR dads, if not the hockey moms. Then there's all those NRA fellas.

So, instead of sponsors bring us some enlightened entertainment, they choose to dumb us down even more by continuing this beauty contest crapola.

Oh, dear, Mr. Day. I believe I've caught the cranky from you!

user-pic

Actually, I was in a happier mood today. This post was begun as a little humorous gag...of course once I start thinking about 18 year old automatons being manufactured by corporate America, well............

Hey, remember the great Basil Wolverton's "Miss Potgold" contest, Mad #17, 1955

http://gatochy.blogspot.com/2008/04/basil-wolverton-mad-no-17-meet-miss.html

Trivia - Wolverton was R. Crumb's inspiration.

user-pic

Ah yes Potgold "Refreshing...Never Filling...Beer as Beer should Taste... Taste smaste..We at Potgold make no bones about it. Potgold makes you drunk. So get potted...Get Potgold...Extra and Extra Extra dry Beer...Beer as Beer Should Feel !"

This is great C.

These commercials selling hard liquor...

PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY

And find some moron to act as your designated driver.

beauty must be in the eyes of the psycho. hahaha

Rush was the guest on Fox News Sunday today. Even Chris Wallace seemed to find his rhetoric excessive; that was funny. I sat through the whole interview. The only really interesting part was that he sort of admitted that he makes his what? 17 million a year? by saying the most outrageous things he can think of. (But, oh, by the way, Chris; I am really worried about Obama taking away our freedoms and ruining the country and I am in the trenches in this war...yadda, yadda.) Oh, and made some bland admissions about his addictions and rehab, but now he loves himself, and won't need any more vicodin. Ha!

user-pic

That is enough for me, thank you for the wrap up...this is as close as I can get to the rat Wendy.

user-pic

Gotta twist the knife just a lttle bit, Dick: I forgot until now that he said there is no WAY he is jealous that Glenn Straight-jacket Beck is way more popular now than he is; "...after all, I was the originator of it all." ;-}

user-pic

Wallace the propagandist's B-girl wants to say the tawdry charade is news, and this is the kind of person he books as a guest?

user-pic

Yeah, all the news that's shit for print. ha

user-pic

OMG Dick, Limbaugh is repulsive, reptilian, women hate him because he is above everything else a woman hater... OMG, if I imagine anymore about him including his micro-penis I will have to commit seppuku!

user-pic

Yeah, well its Wendy who insists on giving me the play by play of his latest appearance. hahahahaha

And she is doing it on purpose.

user-pic

OH NOES....... Wendy doesn't like me though, so I shan't comment on her comical harassment of you! She finds me offensive, and she isn't wrong, I am fairly offensive, but I think I am still likable enough, what did Al Franken say.... I am good enough.. LOL!

user-pic

Well, now, Old Man; was this NOT a blog about the Limburger? I paid my dues in watching for half an hour what My Main Man had to say; that you chose to blog about him, and be the first available recipient of the wisdom I gleaned from him is simply not my fault. ;-}

signed,
Old Woman

p.s. I think he had his stomach stapled; my husband think he is on speed. He's in fightin' trim, though, ain't he?

user-pic

hahaha. He has done this before, as I have. Only he had that first epiphany with a woman trainer he lost along the way...messed up her cat box or some such.

Now I think he saw himself that that nazi repub rally and realized how horrible he looked.

I really hope he dies a painful death, all alone somewhere.

I cannot think of anyone, except for maybe cheney, that I hate more than rush limbaugh.

user-pic

Bert Parks must be rolling over in his grave (he is there, isn't he?) Rush in a Tux will be the male equivalent of lipstick on a pig.

user-pic

hahahah. What the hell are you doing here? hhaha

Go grade some papers. hahah

user-pic

Rush brings an exquiste inequality to everything he does. That he would be selected to judge anything at all is a calamity of injustice.

I'm not sure though if those persons who have selected him haven't completely one upped Rush by having done so.

user-pic

TPC, I guess it will become HIS show. He will be the 500 pound gorrilla in the auditorium.

user-pic

I'm curious if we won't see some manner of controversy before its over.

user-pic

You said he was going to JUDGE it. Is he going to HOST it? That strains credulity!

user-pic

No, no. He will be a judge. But see TPC's comment. I think it will officially become a repub event from now on which I think it is anyway.

user-pic
user-pic

I have never seen a man in a kilt do the twist.

user-pic

Sorry about that... Byrne does lots of 'interesting things' with his costumes...

Still... I thought the song, "Miss America", was strangely appropriate here.

Here are the lyrics in case folks don't feel like watching/listening to the video:

I love America, her secret's safe with me
And I know her wicked ways
The parts you never see

Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although you have a reputation
Can I afford to move above my station
I'm not the only heart you've conquered

And I love America, but boy can she be cruel
And I know how tall she is
Without her platform shoes

Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although at times it might seem awkward
Don't run away, oh don't you recognize me
I'm not the only heart you've conquered

And I kissed America, when she was fleecing me
She knows I understand that she needs to be free
And I miss America and sometimes she does too
And sometimes I think of her
When she is fucking you

I love America
Yo siempre he confiado en ti [=I have always trusted you]
I love America
Por que me tratas asi? [=Why do you treat me like this?]

Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although your pants are round your ankles
And when you're down, I'll be your Dirty Harry
It will be just like in the movies

Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although at times it might seem awkward
Don't look away, I'll be your teenage fanclub
I'm not the only heart you've conquered

user-pic

This is also interesting Icky. It seems to me that 'models' are of a different ilk than pageant contestants. The contestants have a bit more 'flesh' as it were.

Bigger boobs (some purchased like the lady in my picture) and more shapely behinds.

Now I think I am getting hot thinking about all this. TIME FOR A NAP.

hahahaha

user-pic

His cat taught him that women can't feed themselves? As the breadwinner in my little apartment of two (one male), I'd like to point out the insanity in the fact that the man's CAT taught him something.

user-pic

hahahahahaha. i am speechless once again.

I REALLY, REALLY HATE THAT GUY. I MEAN IT IS AN ALL CONSUMING HATE. THAT HE EXPERIENCES ANY JOY IN LIFE WHATSOEVER JUST PISSES ME OFF.

This is not a sane reaction on my part.

user-pic

Iunno, man. You're not claiming that an animal taught you that half your race is incapable of sustaining it's basic needs.

I don't think you're in much danger mentally. lol
