GLENN BECK & THE WORLD GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/66/Lies_and_the_lying_liars.jpg

Once upon a time, Bill O'Reilly did not get along real well with Al Franken. Now Al, my hero had written a couple books. One of them was entitled: Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot. I loved that book although I lost it somewhere along the way. It was the only book I had read that took on Limbaugh and of course it was funny.

It was written in 1996 and really was his first political book. If you read the forwards to his political series you will find that Al is a Harvard Alumnus and that he goes back to his old Alma Mater to pick up a research staff for his books. They checked facts for him, documented every damn sentence, provided a book appendix as well as a separate appendix for the publisher and it ends up being a good deal all the way around.  First, the staff is talented, educated and happy to be mentioned in a best seller.

Second, it allowed Al the freedom to publish without too much hassle from the publisher in that the script did not have to go back and forth to the publisher in an endless loop because everything written was properly documented.  Now in the age of Palin, and Carrie and other idiots, who the hell cares about documentation, but that is the subject of another essay.

In 2003, Franken wrote Lies and the Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right. There are pictures of the people he attacks on the cover of the book. They include Coulter and O'Reilly. But somehow O'Reilly's picture is all blotchy. Well the way he tells it, O'Reilly calls him and bitches about the picture. So Al initially was going to get a new picture for the cover. But O'Reilly attacks him so hard that Al just says 'fuck you' and the picture remains on the cover.

Just as an aside here, there were few cannons being fired at the right in 2003. There were few publications questioning the wars and the stated basis for either war, or it blew me away. I had come to the conclusion that the end of the left as I knew it had come at last.  And it was hilarious as a read.

In this book Al shows exactly what a goddamn liar O'Reilly really is and Billy boy goes nuts. And he gets Fox to sue Franken.  Franken is adamant that this is really O'Reilly's suit.

Now FOX not only sues for damages, but sues for an order of the court enjoining the publisher from publishing the book at all.

The count in the complaint that is always cited involves the fair and balanced phrase in the title.

In 2003, Penguin Books published Franken's book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right, which included a cover photo of Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly and a chapter accusing O'Reilly of lying. In August of that year, Fox News sued, claiming infringement of its registered trademark phrase "Fair and Balanced". A federal judge found the lawsuit to be "wholly without merit". The episode with Fox focused a great deal of media attention about Franken's book and, according to Franken, greatly increased its sales. Reflecting on the lawsuit during a September 2003 interview on the National Public Radio program Fresh Air, Franken said that Fox's case against him was "literally laughed out of court" and added that the judge's comment that the case was "wholly without merit" was a good characterization of Fox News itself.[17][18]

In another interview I saw on CSPAN, I think, Franken said that the presiding judge listened to arguments by counsel and told them to wait for a short while. Al swears the judge went into chambers and came back in ten minutes and RULED FROM THE BENCH. Of course he ruled against Fox and O'Reilly.

This is a fun story. It really is. No suit survived and the entire matter was eventually dropped. In this country you would just about have to have the plans for an atomic bomb included in a manuscript before a court would even consider imposing 'Prior Restraint'.  It just aint gonna happen and every lawyer worth his salt knows this. And the Case NY Times v. Sullivan,  376 U.S. 254 (1964)   http://www.oyez.org/cases/1960-1969/1963/1963_39/ makes it real clear that you are not going to lose a libel/slander suit brought by a well known plaintiff. This just aint gonna happen either.

In Great Britain it is different. The Brits do not have a Sullivan rule and if you lie about someone's actions or statements, and those lies seem to have damaged someone's reputation, you could be in some trouble.  Those gossip rags get sued all the time in Britain.

But this is all an intro for one of the funniest slams against the right that I have read in a long time.

Rush and Beck and Hannity and Savage all make up stuff every day. You see they take advantage of the Sullivan Rule. Obama was not born in this country, Obama is a Muslim, Obama was Senator for one year, Obama is a Socialist, Obama has a deep seated hatred of white people, Obama is a liar.....

Health care legislation is the first step to NAZI rule. Death panels will be formulated any day now by the government and kill your grandma. The Health care legislation will pay for abortions....blah, blah, blah, blah. There is never proper documentation for any of these claims. Never.

And Beck is always at the forefront of all of this. Taking a hint from Bishop Sheen he goes to his blackboard and writes his lies as he speaks them. Then he feigns tears about some scenario that he made up on the first place. Like putting Vick's Vaporub under his eyes to help him shed his crocodile tears. So what is a mother to do?

Well this kid set up a web site entitled: GlennBeckRapedAndMurderedAYoungGirlIn1990.com. Beck naturally sued him. Hahahahah:

This week, Beck lost a legal battle to take down a parody site devoted to mocking the talk-show host's use of innuendo and rumor in going after his political enemies. The domain name that provoked his ire was GlennBeckRapedAndMurderedAYoungGirlIn1990.com, whose main page pledged to "examine the vicious rumor" alluded to in the site's title.

The site's owner, Isaac Eiland-Hall, a 34-year-old computer-science student in Panama City, Florida, told The Daily Beast that the name was derived from a running joke on news site Fark.com's messageboards, which compared Beck's style to a routine by comedian Gilbert Gottfried at a Friar's Club Roast in which he repeatedly denounced the nonexistent rumors that Bob Saget "raped and killed a girl in 1990." In repeating the rumor, of course, Gottfried succeeded in spreading it--thus roasting his fellow comic.

"I've long felt that Beck uses tactics like I satirized on the site," Eiland-Hall told The Daily Beast in an email interview. He says he found "particularly egregious" an incident during Beck's CNN career in which he told Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), a Muslim, that he longed to challenge the congressman by saying: "Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies

May 10, 1990, 11 year old Robin Cornell and her 32 year old babysitter, Lisa Storey were found beaten, raped, and smothered to death in Cape Coral, Florida. Police are now interviewing local detectives to re-open the case, but if they don't find any new leads by the end of the year it will be closed. They are also looking into airing an episode on Americas Most Wanted. This town desperately needs your help in solving this case.

Beck was also linked to the rape and murder of seven-year old Margaret Shrader in Harris County, Texas in 1990.

I fucking knew it!

I'm not saying he definitely did it, but it is curious how he's not out there denying it. I mean where is his statement on this issue? Where is his criminal record? He should release these things to the public if these so-called allegations are false, but it's pretty disturbing nonetheless.

Especially with the fact that where there's smoke there is fire. I wonder how many other rapes and murders done by Glenn Beck are out there that we don't know about yet

http://gatsome.com/2009/09/01/glenn-beck-raped-and-murdered-a-girl-in-1990/

You can see how this guy uses satire to do EXACTLY WHAT BECK DOES ON HIS OWN SHOW. It is just that Beck is not seen by his viewers as being tongue in cheek. Beck is serious about his outrageous lies.

But there is a hidden story hear.  Beck did not sue Eiland-Hall in a State or Federal Court. Instead he had his attorneys take the creator of this web site to a forum known as the: World Intellectual Property Organization charging that the satirical site's domain name should be canceled because it is "plainly libelous, patently false, not authorized by Mercury or Beck, and is likely to cause confusion for consumers."  http://minnesotaindependent.com/46546/glenn-beck-keith-ellison-rape-murder-site

Now watch Lord Christopher Monckton and John Bolton appear on Glenn Beck's show in this video: http://vodpod.com/watch/2506029-lord-monckton-on-glenn-beck-one-world-government-treaty

One of Beck's continuing conspiracy theories is that the Democrats and the Socialists around the world are conspiring to create a world government.

So the idiot ends up going to a 'World Court' to get rid of a sarcastic blog.

Just irony. That is the only point here.

Irony is dead.

Glenn Beck is still alive.

Tragedy, and tragedy part two.

user-pic

hahaha. How ironic a statement Grouch. hahaha

user-pic

HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Irony indeed!!!

user-pic

I just found it amazing.

But there is a tape of him that KeithO shows, and he is sick and talking about how American doctors suck......

Now he goes on and on about how we have the best health care system in the world, the best doctors and the best insurance.....

ah, forget it.

It is just that when he put his lawyers where his mouth is...

user-pic

Yeah, it really does become numbing. I mean, you couldn't script that kind of hypocrisy. Kinda gives you a sense of divine humor.

user-pic

Every day for Glenn Beck seems to be a brand new world for him.

Is that something characteristic of all American movement conservatives? They certainly get angry if you bring up what they said yesterday or before.

"Not Fair!! We have no memory! Bringing up what you claim we did or said yesterday is attacking an unarmed person!"

user-pic

Mr. Dick, did you see the shtick where Hannity gave Obama hell for the sauce he requested on his burger? I think everyone here at TPM would enjoy hearing your rant on that particular bit of insanity.

user-pic

No I did not. But It sounds right out of their playbooks.....ha! I shall take a look...

user-pic

...sauce for the goose-stepper...

user-pic

Good bird retort!!!

user-pic

Sounds like the bird has the last word!

user-pic

Groannnnnn.....

Are you fired up for Sarah Failin's book tour this week? Talk about just handing you material...

By the way, is Glenn B. back on the air and have his organs recovered from whatever their problem was?

Is there a good time to come visit you in MN from Atlanta this week? Thank the goddess I don't have to dress for your weather. (It was 76° here today.)

user-pic

Oh and I forgot, I have to write my chapter today and Thursday. I mean I have twelve hours and all but I get stuck in my head.

A REAL SCARY PLACE BELIEVE YOU ME!!! Hahahahah

user-pic

Can we find out what wealthy conservatives are buying her book in bulk and see if they will contribute copies to us? I'll even pay a small remainder fee as long as she gets no royalty from me.

Otherwise I have to wait until B&N puts it up for $1.99. (Next week, maybe? My $3.89 postage and handling goes to support the postal service and a used book outfit.)

user-pic

Hi Richard. I will wait and probably skim it when it hits the library. I will feel less dirty.

I do not think this is the same phenomenon witnessed with regard to that swiftboater who wrote a book of lies on Obama last year. There was a clear instance of the oligarchy buying up a book en masse in order to drive its title up the NYT Best Seller List.

Remember, there are millions of people who listen to Rush...not the ten or twenty million claimed, but millions nonetheless.

And millions just love this uneducated bitch. But millions upon millions just love Cheney.

user-pic

Yeah, that's what I should do, too, but I like to write comments in books like this one. $6.00 is cheaper than replacing a library book.

user-pic

Oh my Seashell. I am available. I spose with my strange naps and everything, just email an approximate time, or leave a note here. I would appreciate it much.

A lot of damn delays. But I am more patient lately. This still is ten times better than I ever had it on the internet or on a computer.

Google and youtube and other 'search engines' (is that the term) are getting better and better. This is the perfect tool for alzeimer's. ha

user-pic

This is right on the money. Bravo Dick.

user-pic

Well thank you Norseman. Thank you for the kind words.

user-pic

Here's the Glenn Beck uses Vicks video; everyone should get to see it. It is hilarious+++.
What a showman!

user-pic

Thank you Wendy, that really rounds out the discussion here.

The son of a bitch is so goddamn blatant about it all. Amazing.

user-pic

Stupid + Ignorant + Hysteria + Freedom-loving really sells well lately. What an interesting twist of fate. Or more Devolution:

One of my alltime favs

user-pic

Devo. I have not listened to them in years. Had a similar approach as The Cars. But with a twist so to speak. Thank you Wendy.

user-pic

ADL director. Very good of him. And he did this message in such a perfect manner.

I would have done so with more rage and the message would have been lost.

Thank you Matyra!!!

user-pic

My comment has been received and is being held for approval???

I've not had that happen before... :/

(Sorry I posted it 4 times!!! But I thought it was getting lost somehow...)

user-pic

What the hell is that all about? Sorry Icky. I had trouble the other day because I broke the two link rule. In comments you cannot cite more than two links.

But the comment just would not show up, no warning.

Probably some 'loop' or something.

user-pic

It may have been the Two Link Rule... I think I did have more than 2 links :(

AND.... I've since done so many other things, I'll never get it back (I didn't copy and paste it anywhere!)...

I'll see if I can track down some crazy Beck stuff in a minute...

user-pic

Great stuff, DD!

user-pic

Well thank you Mr. Smith!! I had forgotten about the O'Reilly/Franken feud until I read about this strange blog.

user-pic

I am happy to report I have no cable! I like it this way! I'm sure I'm missing something, dd. But oh, well.... :0

user-pic

Nor I. The only legitimate reason for cable would be to see John Stewart and the Colbert Report. But you can see a lot of those 2 shows online anyway. ;)

user-pic

That's what Hulu is for. You can always find The Daily Show and Colbert Report on Hulu the morning after their show (and for quite a while after that).

user-pic

When I get bored and start ranting about the fact that there is nothing on my 40 channels to watch...I go to Hulu.

user-pic

hahaha. No dear, you are not missing a damn thing.

But remember there are some decent shows, fiction as well as non fiction, reproduced for your pc.

user-pic

I was perfectly happy with my over-the-air channels, but the Cables resented that. So the switched to this damned HD garbage. Now I can't get half the over-the-air stuff, and a lot of what I can get is unreliable. It's like a cheap radio used to be in the 50's. The FCC was obviously bought. They lied. (I know. What's new?)

It's a plot to force me to buy cable, and I refuse.

I already pay AT&T (Yuk!) for premium DSL that often downloads at 5000 to 6000 kbps, and the cable companies haven't figured out how to manage and repair computers yet, let alone a broadband ISP. They don't spend adequate money training technicians.

The phone companies used to be a lot better about training their technicians back when they ran a regulated monopoly. As opposed to now when they run an unregulated monopoly.

But I still get PBS reliably over-the-air. Masterpiece Theater and the new Dr. Who are decent. What else is there?

user-pic

Just a thought. I wanted to take another look at Lewis (the successor to my favorite Morris). Thank you for reminding me. I hope they still have the series accessible.

I wish they would let me jump into old Rumpole videos and several other Masterpieces of old.

user-pic

Two excellent videos starring Franken and BillO.

http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/bill-oreilly-gnashes-teeth-laments-a

user-pic

I saw this on cable years ago...Thank you. Makes me feel better about my memory.

It is fun, this video, just watching Bill during Al's rant. Bill is sooooooooo goddamn mad!!! ahahahah

user-pic

While loading his audience with a handful of African American Conservatives who have a strong enough stomach to endure his race baiting idiocy, Beck shares with us that he "doesn't identify himself as White."

Fine.

BUT THEN, Beck goes on to identify himself as a "White Guy" no less than THREE TIMES in the next 15 SECONDS.

You just can't make this sh*t up. See for yourself...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m20IPcbplxA

(Special thx to Kbob)

What a douche

user-pic

not sure why the blockquote showed up the way it did... but... I think you can figure it out. :)

user-pic

I've found that blockquotes in comments automatically end at the end of the first paragraph. I think that was characteristic of a very early version of HTML.

If there is some way to put multiple paragraphs into a single blockquote I haven't found it yet, but I often blockquote each paragraph separately.

As an experiment.

I'll try this.

And apparently it works. Put in two line breaks between the lines you want for the second paragraph. A line break is [br /] with the square brackets replaced with the angled brackets used for less than and greater than.

user-pic

As an example, the blockquote above is written

[blockquote]As an experiment[br /][br /] I'll try this[/blockquote]

Angle brackets replace the square ones, of course.

As far as the website knows it's all one paragraph. But the browser displays it with two line breaks inside the blockquote.

user-pic

This is great. 45 seconds. Beck CANNOT help himself.
You are right.

Eric Cartman is the new Glenn Beck. Last night on "South Park" the chubby youngster took over morning announcements and turned them from standard bullet points into long screeds about the student class president. Turns out Eric hates her and as a result devotes all his time to creating and promoting crazy conspiracy theories about her time in office. Sound familiar? He even wrote a book that claimed to be about how the school is suffering under her leadership, but was really just 500 pages of him calling Wendy a slut.

user-pic

A SOCIALIST DUNG HOLE. hahaha

user-pic

It's hard to mock Glenn Beck. He's sort of become a caricature of himself, leaving little room for others to inject more humor into the situation. But brave men have tried and these five succeeded. Enjoy!

http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/th...e-11-3-project

We knew Jon Stewart was a talented comedian, but until this performance we didn't know he had missed his true calling: Being Glenn Beck. The "Daily Show" host spent an entire segment acting like, talking like, crying like, dancing like, and gesticulating like Glenn Beck. He was inspired by the fact that Beck recently had his appendix removed to create the 11/3 project--taking America back to a time before Beck lost his vestigial organ.

(thx again to dgd)

user-pic

This is a great video. Spot on.

user-pic

Ah, shit. Enough about Glenn Beck! But when I followed Neoboho's link to the Onion, I found this:

user-pic

This is great. hahah. And I did hit Neo's post today.
