BABIES, RACCOONS AND HEALTH CARE
Representative Shadegg:
I wish this was my granddaughter," Shadegg said. "This is Maddie. Maddie believes in freedom. Maddie likes America because we have freedom here. And Maddie believes in patient choice health care. She asked to come here today to say she doesn't want the government to take over health care. She wants to keep her plan."
The chamber was either a bit freaked out or slightly humored. It was difficult to say.
"Mr. Speaker that was a remarkable child and a great ventriloquist," responded Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.).

Shortly thereafter, Representative John Boner brought his raccoon up to the dais:
Mr. Speaker, this is somebody's grandson; not my grandson. But this raccoon, sure as I am standing here today in the never ending fight for truth, justice and the American way, had a mother and a father. The raccoon's parents had their own parents. And, therefore, this raccoon is somebody's grandson.
Now political correctness will not allow me to refer to these critters as 'coons' anymore, but suffice it to say that they are really not the masked bandits as they were once portrayed. I will just refer to him as Rush, the magic raccoon.
Now Rush was born free in the forest. Rush was free from government interference and you can see that ole Rush is healthy, as healthy as a raccoon can ever be. Rush is free to see any vet his heart desires.
Of course he has to work hard and save up enough acorns--oops wrong word in this context--enough eggs to feed himself and his family. But Rush is free to visit that vet of choice and they can work out the details of payment. It is up to them. Not you or me or the govement.
I am so sick of all of this I could puke. Rush knows that he has to keep up his health, he cannot get too fat, he is not allowed to be come lazy. He cannot feign 'mental' debilitation.
Rush here is THE TRUE AMERICAN.

I watched CSPAN this morning. A caller quoted some repub as saying that the Health Care Bill throws the baby out with the bathwater.
Shaking, the caller noted that he was one of the 47 million uninsured in this country and that he did not like to be referred to
AS BATHWATER.

Things are getting soooooo ugly! Very disturbing. I feel like those stirring things up are letting a genie out of bottle. And it may be very, very difficult to ever get it back in.
Some disgusting things are being said! By elected representatives. Terrible example to young people! Imagine foreigners - watching from abroad. (let alone the ones quaking in their boots at home)
Well done, dd!

What an idiot.

Well, dd, why should the kid get caught in the crossfire? (Maybe she has sane parents!)

Wow! Just the other day I saw something in an office building called: "Rent a grandchild!" That must be how this guy got a kid! I worry about that kid!
(At first I thought you meant he pretended he had a kid... but now I see he pretended he was related to the kid.)

Probably some lobbyist's kid; donated for "the cause" of freedom -- freedom from health care.
My question is this: If they manage to kill health care, what will they kill next -- puppies?

Michele Bachmann will kill and eat a live kitten on national television. Since it is clearly a socialist kitten, it will be justifiable in her mind.

And yet raccoons are evolved enough to have thumbs that work the same way as ours. Sadly, so do the thumbs of the Republicans, though we can hardly make the statement that they are "evolved", can we?

hahahaaha. The problem is that as outrageous as these people are, they have support from tens of millions of people.
Kissing babies is one thing. Holding them like Michael Jackson from the window of public pandering...

Speaking of health care reform [and feeling hopeless]...
*This isn't in direct reply to dickday.
H.R. 3962, The Affordable Health Care for America Act, PASSED in the House of Representatives tonight at approx 11:00 p.m.
The cafe-klatsch thing is fine on most days, but this was just too dispiriting to bear:
Yesterday I posted a list of preliminary Democratic votes compiled with much effort by the SEIU and posted it with a request to CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE - even provided the links). How hard would it have been to actually click on the links and have that call made for you?
Nobody read it. It had one recommend other than my own (yes, I recommended my own post because it was important). I do see, however, numerous posts about everything and nothing under the sun other than the business at hand.
The Health Care Reform Bill passed in the House tonight, no thanks to the folks here at TPM cafe who have a tendency to post buttloads of rants, yet ignore the posts that might just further a progressive agenda.
Thanks for nothing (with exception of the very few).
And before anyone starts ranting about the current bill: READ IT.
This was pretty much my last straw. There is yet so much more work to be done if we ever want to accomplish anything, and apparently TPMCafe isn't the place to ask for help.
There must be other ways...
You can keep this hopeless cafe-klatsch. I'm done with it.
[cross-posted from comments in coonsey's/stillidealistic's blog]
Note: I am not an SEIU member. I just receive their emails in an effort to keep myself apprised of events and action alerts.

Kfreed. I am sorry. Some days I examine the lists of blogs better than others.
But I have signed petitions, signed on to group letters, signed on to communiques that ended up being sent as faxes, sent my own emails and phoned my congressman.
I have signed communiques to other members of Congress per Moveon.org and others.
Congressman Oberstar is the Democrat's Dem...he voted for the measure last night..see Chi Trib.
Amy K and Al F will vote for the strongest legislation available in the Senate.
Sync, for one, has set up links to letter factories and she is one of many here who have done this.
You are angry.
All the work you did I understand.
And I write fluff along with others here.
It has been slow the last couple of months.
On this little sketch I received 13 rec's. Not a big deal.
Oh well.

kfreed I was busy yesterday in Springfield IL, inside a community college auditorium filled to capacity with Democratic political activists receiving training for 2010 thanks to Dick Durbin and our state County Chairs org. I wasn't able to call any of our Blue Dogs or my worthless congresswoman Judy Biggert who voted against the bill but for the Stupak amendment. I did try to leave a thank you for Rep. Cao this am but his vm box is full at both his NO and DC offices.
Regardless thanks for posting that list and keep up the good work. We all get lost in the shuffle sometimes. Progress can be agonizingly slow. Let's get to work on the senators now. We need a list with phone numbers of people in Blue Dog states who will be listened to by their senators. Let's make sure that Lincoln, Landreau, Nelson etc. hear from folks who can make or break them that we want this bill or we want new senators from their states.

Hi Mark. Good to see ya.
Some org.just emailed me asking me to thank Rep Oberstar. A lot of organizing out there.

Hey Dick, I just sent a letter to the editor thru Organizing for America to my local papers excoriating my useless congresswoman for voting against the bill but voting for the Stupak amendment. Judy Biggert has always called herself pro choice, though around here she only whispers it. When push came to shove though, on about the only bill she's ever had a chance to put her money where he mouth is she sold women out.
If you want to write a LTE to your local papers congratulating your rep or sticking it to him or her you can go here:

WEll that took twenty minutes and some thinking. The organizing involved in something like this link as well as software is amazing.
The form letters are there but you also have to write your own.
At any rate,,
DONE

I barked through this whole blog, dd and had to run for the fire hydrant before the rug took a hit.
My new motto is to call anyone in the GOP and Religious Right 'lunatics'. It just seems to cover what we're talking about here.
How is the PC doing? I need to come in soon and check out the logs.
