UPDATE on the July 30 Single-Payer Healthcare Rally in DC,
The purpose of this recurring/shared blog is to share information about the single payer rally and lobbying effort on July 30th, to raise money to send those that passionately want to represent us and cannot afford to go, and to encourage as many people as possible to attend the rally and represent those of us who cannot be there so that our voices are heard.
So far, we've raised $640, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You and have used most of that to purchase Gumbun's ticket from CA to DC. Since then TPM's Ripper McCord has spoken up and asked to be included in our fundraising efforts so that he can attend the rally as well. So we are resetting our current balance and fundraising goal:
Current New Balance(after Gumbun's ticket): $140
Our New Goal (Gumbun's hotel, Ripper's travel & Hotel): $700

There will be a multi-organizational rally in Washington, DC, July 30th to express the voice of the people who demand a single-payer healthcare system. HealthcareNOW is coordinating people to ensure every Congressperson on the Hill is individually visited by people who are determined to have a single-payer healthcare system implemented here in the United States. Healthcare NOW is offering a teach-in in NYC on July 25 to teach people about single payer vs the 'public option'. You can participate live/online here: http://www.healthcare-now.org/campaigns/single-payer-teach-in/

Oh gooooooooood you got it. I needed the damn address. Seashell helped me put together an address book now and everytime I mail it goes in the magic box.
This really was a joint effort from all these fine people.
Of course I had to 'fix' my portion of it three times already. hahahaahahaha

Excellent - rec'd!
One of the things I hope the training will cover is the absolute nonsensical approach of the conservatives. If the CBO says the current proposals don't do enough to rein in costs, that isn't an excuse to do nothing. In fact, if anything, the CBO's numbers show that the approach of compromising the plan to death isn't viable. If what's being proposed now is still to expensive, that means that we need single payer instead!

Oh, I completely agree (and sometimes swearing is the best way to communicate the seriousness of the situation).
What I can't figure out though, is why there aren't more people pointing out the obvious: if we can't afford the current proposals because they cost too much because they don't do enough to reform the system, then what we need is not more compromise with those who really would prefer the status quo; what we really need is single payer.
BTW, I can't afford to donate, but I did enter your post at reddit. :)

I can't say whether I can afford to pour on a few more bucks. I am weighing it, seriously. I have two adult kids, though healthy and young, with no health insurance. And a dear pug for which I cannot feel at all comfortable about spending five grand on for the surgery which could improve her quality of life.
And why must it be about "insurance"? The word has taken on a really nasty meaning!
Sorry to go on and on.
I will probably donate again. How many chances do we have to make our voices heard? This rally will work if our voices are manifest.

What a story. I recall per many articles over the last decade that Oregon, on the whole, has had a terrible time with its economy.
Strato, I feel for these people. And unless it is a ruse, your link demonstrates a state where the elected officials and the voters of Oregon wish to work together and do the right thing.

Geez Rowan and Bwak - I was trying to make it clear that my contribution to the book was negligible. DD deserves all the credit.
But the intro to his address book? - now that was priceless!!!! The genius could write an entire book, but his method for keeping track of email addys was somewhere between abysmal and too funneeee!

Well without a computer I write nothing.
Without a computer that works and that can take me to all the wonderful sites out there and get me the information I need, I write little.
Without someone to walk me through this complicated software and make use of the tools available, my 'book' sits in Word. And it is difficult to cut and past 230 some pages and, of course, hope SOME of the pictures come thru.
NOW WHO DO I THANK FOR THESE THINGS, THESE TOOLS?
Well my friends at TPM.
But my Seashell goes to the top of the list!!!

Dd, put a bunch of stuff like this at the top of your address book: #$@%^&* (as if it was an email) Then there's no way a computer program can steal your list. Or if they do, it won't go any further than that one "address".
