FISH STANDING AGAINST THE CURRENT
| Steve King |
You know, I am working on something with LisB, so I was
going to skip a blog today.
But it is exactly at those times that I come across
something so awesome that it is hard to just skip over it and go on to other
things....
There comes a time when courage, true courage is
demonstrated.
Like when Mr. Smith stands for a full 20 hours or something
and faints almost dead away in an attempt to stop Democratic taxing and spending and aiding those Brits in the
United States Senate.
Or when Donald M. Fraser stood up in the House of
Representatives in August of 1964 and voted against the Gulf
of Tonkin Resolution which ended up
being equivalent to a Declaration of War against North
Vietnam.
One of only three, I believe to vote against a charade that would lead
to the death of 58,000 American Soldiers, Hundreds of Thousands Vietnamese and
ultimately the election of Nixon in 1968.
Still trying to figure out which of these was the worst outcome of that vote. Never mind, all of it really was worst when you think about it.
Well, the House held a vote for a resolution:
111-153
DIRECTING THE ARCHITECT OF THE CAPITOL TO PLACE A MARKER IN EMANCIPATION HALL
IN THE CAPITOL VISITOR
CENTER WHICH ACKNOWLEDGES THE ROLE
THAT SLAVE LABOR PLAYED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE UNITED STATES CAPITOL, AND
FOR OTHER PURPOSES. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/cpquery/R?cp111:FLD010:@1(hr153)
Yup. You just cannot get more controversial than this.
I mean, they are still contending that this country fostered
slavery for some four score and
seven years or so following the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
I mean, next they will be saying that w lied us into a war,
that billowing wads of smoke into the atmosphere causes global warming and that
Liberace was gay.
And I mean, 'they' are going to actually use taxpayer dollars
to erect a 'marker' to commemorate the work performed by these so-called
'slaves'.
But there is one man who stood up for life, liberty and the
pursuit of property.
One man who feels that those thousands of taxpayer dollars
could be better put to use. Perhaps
wrapping CEO's in better quality suits so that they can better represent America
in their search for slave labor all around the world.
Or cutting the taxes for people who have reached the highest
caste in our economic system today.
Or perhaps taking a cue from Ashcroft and covering up more
boobs that just seem to hang out all over the place at our Nation's Capitol.
And who exactly is this great man, this man man enough to stand up to a system of waste?
Well there is this wonderful guy in the House of Representatives. His name is Steven King.
When he is not writing all those great American Novels, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) is representing my neighboring state.
And he has been the single vote against the communist resolution I cited above.
King has a long history of opposing resolutions he considers frivolous; in
2007, however, he introduced a resolution "recognizing the importance of
Christians and the Christian faith."
A King spokesman did not immediately return a call. King later explained his position in a statement:
"In the Capitol Visitor's Center, we agreed to change the name of the Great Hall - which honored the immigrants that came legally to America - to Emancipation Hall to honor the 645,000 slaves and their descendants who were brought to the United States more than two centuries ago.
"Last night I opposed yet another bill to erect another monument to
slavery because it was used as a bargaining chip to allow for the actual
depiction of 'In God We Trust' in the CVC. The Architect of the Capitol and
liberal activists opposed every reference to America's Christian heritage, even to the extent of
scrubbing 'In God We Trust' from the depiction of the actual Speaker's chair in
the U.S. House of Representatives.
"This is just the latest example of a several year effort by liberals in Congress to scrub references to America's Christian heritage from our nation's Capitol. Liberals want to amend our country's history to eradicate the role of Christianity in America and chisel references to God or faith from our historical buildings. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/08/rep-steve-king-lone-vote_n_227866.html
They just do not make em like this anymore!!!If this man does not stand up for Christian slave owners, I mean who will?

This fish will go down in history, Dick. Not every fish is stupid you know.

We have more than a few like this in office who can't get the basics of right and wrong straight.
In fact, the majority of congress fails this test on some very basic issues.
This being the case should inform us of why so many things have gone so very wrong in this country.
When our congresspersons and senators violate basic stuff like this, write them on their web site and let them know what assholes they are. I've been in their faces this way and firmly believe that everyone needs to do so. I guarantee they will not change otherwise. We have to make them change.

Yeah I get lax TPC. It is like, hey I can get ONE VOTE IN.
If I am pissed off, so are thousands of others.
And these guys and gals, they look at public reaction. They get upset.
It is just that I always hated King but this is over the top
THIS IS IOWA AFTER ALL, Not Alabama.

Once again: writing your elected reps on their website, particularly on this off-topic makes you feel better but doesn't influence them.
FAX (always FAX) your rep in his DC office.
You can then also trying calling the local field office. You might get credited with two hits since they probably won't correlate the two.
However, just remember that if you tell your elected rep what an asshole he is, you can expect to get the same response as if someone told you what an asshole you are.

Calling them names, especially considering it is well deserved, is actually effective if everyone does it. I would gladly be nice to them but they have to earn my respect. Right now I see them as little different from someone breaking into my home with the intent of harming me or my family. That is the result they are delivering at present. I suspect if all citizens took five minutes once a week to drop a message we would have a very different country. Of course, they would probably need to do something with their messaging servers because if everyone did as I suggest they would most assueredly crash the servers.

Unless you can tell me you've worked as a congressional aide, or in the halls of power at Congress, or heavily interacted with high elected reps and their staffs, I can assure you that calling them names will, in fact, be counter productive.
Know the difference between venting rage and getting what you want.
What you can do to get their attention is to say that you are so disappointed (and use that term) in their performance, vote, etc. that despite being a lifelong Democrat, you are planning on donating money to their GOP opponent in the fall and campaign for the GOP candidate.
Money gets their attention.
The real problem is that re-election of incumbents are nearly guaranteed. Therefore, the politician is not so worried about doing the people's business -- except right near election time.
Please do not encourage name calling as it will only show that kooks support the cause. It's simply not a good way of changing things.
