That line about buying numbers for the lottery. It reminds me that some folks recently sold houses via a lottery. And imagine if things had gotten so bad, they sold lottery tickets so some could get health care.

three weeks and my silly season is over. Grading is the absolute least favorite thing I do in my job...papers aren't like eggs. If I try candling them they burn up. :-)

Not to throw cold water but the Repubs are just waiting us out. All the nonsense they say now is just laying down "I told you so" markers for the future as they actively undermine our agenda.
Newt's trying to put some spine in Israeli crazies hoping they'll stand against Obama's attempts to end the Palestinian crisis and instead foment war against Iran. Malaki and the Shiites apparently have no intention of treating the Sunnis and Kurds fairly so the Iraq Occupation will in the end be a mess no matter when we get out.
Most economists on the left agree the stimulus package is too small to jumpstart the economy without another bill next year. While on the right Wall St. economists are already complaining about inflation.
There's another peak of bad mortgages coming in 2010. 2011, this time not subprime but ARMs, options ARMS etc. Times will remain tough and Repubs will claim Obama's programs are an expensive failure.
Not to be too gloomy on such a fine spring morning but it's going to take a lot of pushback on our part. Barack can't do it alone.
