Agreed. I'm from Idaho, used to be a republican, I'm pretty much an independant now, thanks to Bush and I campaigned and donated to Obama. Us independents get to decide elections these days. If the democrats start talking about protectionism, and getting rid of blue dog democrats you better believe I'll be working 100% against the DNC in 2010. As it is, Obama is still very much impressing me. Even if I don't like the democratic reps in my state, I may vote for them just to give Obama a little more leeway. The Democrats should learn from the republicans and Marquis de SeaToShiningSea, is learning exactly how to replicate how the GOP became so popular.

Honestly after spending a ton of hours talking to people about prop 8 your not really helping.

First, calling someone a bigot just makes them offended. You should really stop that, it just makes you feel better. If you just want to feel better, go on a vacation.

Second, your argument hinges on the fact that people understand that it's natural to be homosexual. 90% of the people that voted Yes on prop 8 believe that being Homosexual is a choice. You should spend a little more time fighting this misconception and a little less time calling people names.

As Merrill posted above heavy equipment manufacturers are the ones that produce the equipment the military needs most.

Really if you think about it the quality of the products coming out of the big three might be exactly why the military doesn't use them. A restructuring might be in the best interests of national security! At least then they might be able to make something the US military could use.

>rather to prevent a domino effect with an industry that may contribute as much as 10% to the US workforce,

I'm getting sick of reading this misinformation. It's like reading crap out of the Bush administration. Do you even know what you are talking about? 10%?!!! We have about 190,000,000 employed people. 10% would be 18.6 million people. Where do you get these numbers? It's fear mongering. GM employs around 266,000 and those are the most at risk. Certainly the 3rd party parts suppliers will be hit but imagining that it's going to be over 1,000,000 is just silly.

Even if it was 1 million. 50 billion divided by 1 million is still $50,000 per person. I'd rather just extend unemployment benefits for 2 years and we would still be better off. All this scare mongering just makes me think back to why we went into Iraq. Misinformation form people that want to make some easy money.

>Why can't we own an auto company or two?.

If you want to own an auto company go buy some GM stock, it's really cheap right now. Please don't force me to buy any, I think it's completely oversold.
