Jane Hamsher got this statement out of Obama's people:

"Senator Obama unequivocally opposes giving retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies and has cosponsored Senator Dodd's efforts to remove that provision from the FISA bill. Granting such immunity undermines the constitutional protections Americans trust the Congress to protect. Senator Obama supports a filibuster of this bill, and strongly urges others to do the same. It's not clear whether he can return for the vote, but under the Senate rules, the side trying to end a filibuster must produce 60 votes to cut off debate.  Whether he is present for the vote for not, Senator Obama will not be among those voting to end the filibuster." 

Unacceptable.  Back when Dodd started this fight, Obama promised to help.  All he's saying here is that he won't go out of his way to break Dodd's filibuster.  Well gee, thanks.  He should be doing his job which is to march onto the Senate floor, say that this bill is of paramount importance and he should help Dodd fight.  Obama should be using his cache as a presidential candidate to block this legislation.  He shouldn't leave the fighting to others.

Hillary Clinton is one of my Senators. I am on hold right now, waiting to ask if my Senator will do what she promised and return from campaigning in Iowa to help Chris Dodd beat back telecom immunity. She can't help him filibuster if she's not there and she said she'd help.

Here's what the rep said:

"I don't have the senator's schedule. She is in support of a filibuster, she is in support of Senator Dodd's filibuster."

I asked her how she could support the filibuster if she's not in D.C. to help. The rep reiterated that she doesn't "have the Senator's schedule."

I just wanted to put this out there. She'd better show up.
