Fund PD Research, Enjoy a Good Book

I'm hoping my credibility here after a couple years of posting occasional diaries is sufficient that I might be able to draw your attention to my efforts to help fund research into finding a cure for Parkinson's disease.

I've written a book about my experience called "No Doorway Wide Enough."  It's about my decade with PD, from my diagnosis at age 45 in 2000, to volunteering for experimental brain surgery in 2007, to the mixed results I'm experiencing today.

Eeeek! Muslims! Eeeek!

Eeeek! Muslims! Eeeek! thumbnail

Muslims ate my baby!

Muslims tipped over my garbage and made a mess.

Muslims kept me up all night with their incessant ululating.

Muslims ruined my fish fry with their call to prayer from their mosque minarets.

Muslims killed my cat.

Muslims marked their territory in my yard by peeing on the side of my house.

Sarah Palin: Full of Sound and Fury and Signifying Nothing

If you are like me, and God help you if you are, you were ENCHANTED by Sarah Palin's invention of a new word over the weekend!

Awwww.... Isn't she CUTE?  She thought that by cramming "refute" and "repudiate" into a single word, she was being CREATIVE!

Was Teabagger Apology Sincere? Dr. Letcher Asks YOU!

Hatespeech

(Cross posted from my blog.)

Much has been made in the liberal blogosphere about the "sincere apology" offered by Chris Reichert, the "gentleman" wearing the white shirt and tie who threw money at Dr. Bob Letcher at the Tea Party Rally in Columbus, Ohio, a month ago.  The opinion on the liberal blogs seems to run from "everyone makes mistakes" to "he got caught up in the moment"  to "well, at least he apologized," to "he can take his apology and stick it where the sun doesn't shine."

Parkinson's Patient Mocked by Teabaggers Shares His Thoughts

(Cross posted on my personal blog, My PD Diary)

I've gotten many comments on this blog since I started it.  None of which makes me more proud than the one I received this morning from Dr. Robert Letcher.

Remember him?

This man, this HERO, drew attention to the true nature of the Tea Party movement by a simple, courageous act of sitting silently while the teabaggers taunted and threw money at him.

In an earlier post, I wrote about how the teabagger in the dress shirt and tie who threw the money apologized.  Dr. Letcher commented on that post, and I share his comment here again.

Joe Stack: Right Wing Hero?

Gail and I were out and about this afternoon, and we made a stop at a liquor store.  As I waited in line, a gent of about my age (wearing shorts in the cold weather for some reason) was talking to the cashier.  He was going on and on about how what Joe Stack did by flying an airplane into an IRS building was wrong, but he sure could understand it.

The cashier seemed nervous and anxious for the conversation to end, but the guy kept going on.  Talking about his own past problems with the IRS, talking about how maddening it all was, talking about how they always "getcha" in the end.

I stood there, holding onto a bottle of 15-year old Glenfiddich and kept my mouth shut.

Did a Disgruntled Tax Cheat Fly a Plane into an Austin Office Building?

According to reporting on MSNBC, someone named Joe Stack allegedly set his house on fire and fled to an airport, stole a small plane, and allegedly flew a plane into an office building which houses the IRS.

Now, Oliver Willis on his website, makes this incredible find.

Sort of a teabagger manifesto, purportedly written by Joe Stack.

Read after the jump.

The Stimulus Hypocrite's Hymn

The Stimulus Hypocrite's Hymn
by Bill Schmalfeldt

The stimulus is fascist.
The stimulus is socialist.
The stimulus is unAmerican.
Now cut me a check for the folks back home!

The stimulus is unconstitutional.
The stimulus is wrecking the economy.
The stimulus means the end of freedom.
Now take my picture with the oversized check!

The Progressive Debate (in its Current State)

Progressive agenda?  What happened?

It's your fault.
It's not my fault.
It's your fault.
I couldn't be more upset about this.

You let us down by not being doing the thing I wanted you to do.
You let us down by criticizing our leader for not doing enough.
You're giving aid and comfort to the enemy when you support bipartisanship.
You're helping the obstructionists when you give them the cold shoulder.
It's your fault.
This is all your fault.
There's nothing funny about it.
Don't come in here laughing with your little jokes.
And stop being so serious.
Can't some of you cats lighten up a little bit?
Thousands are dying in Iraq.
Thousands are dying in Afghanistan.
Thousands are dying in Appalachia.
Homeless men freeze to death on Wall Street.

Forget 2012, Mr. President. LEAD NOW!!!

When President George W. Bush was handed a stunning defeat in 2006, losing both houses of the Congress to the Democrats, he told the voters, "I heard your message, and I'm going to listen to you."

Then... he increased our presence in Iraq, which was the reason he LOST both houses of Congress.

President Obama needs to take a lesson from President Bush in this instance.  First, he needs to unload his advisers.  Whoever is telling him to keep up the pressure for "bipartisanship" should be parking cars in the White House garage.

Mass. Voters Poised to Pitch a Hissy Fit

In the beautiful state of Massachusetts today, the bluest of blue states.  A state that voted for McGovern when the other 49 went for Nixon, the home of Teddy Kennedy, JFK, RFK and Tip O'Neill... they're going to the polls today.  And by all signs they are going to elect someone who stands against everything they believe in... cuz they're mad!

WHO'S the 'Hypocrite', Mr. Steele?

GOP Chairman Michael Steele just called President Obama a "hypocrite" for sending his kids to a private school while coming out against vouchers in DC that would give tax money to parents who want to send THEIR kids to private schools.

While everyone with a working frontal lobe knows that this whole "vouchers" thing the GOP is in love with is just a thinly-veiled attempt to cripple the heavily-Democratic teachers union by crippling public schools, it is still instructive to listen to Steele's bleatings.

Watch now, as I take his quote, present it in its entirety, then change it to make my point as to what "hypocrisy" REALLY looks like.

Leave That Nose Where It IS!!!

noseThe Rolling Stones were correct...

"You Cain't Always Get Whut Yew Wah-awnt!"

And that is going to be the ultimate result of this current debate over health care reform.

As I've said previously, if you can just strip the mandates out of the current bill (because how can you fairly require people to purchase a product and then give them no choice where to purchase it or how much to pay for it), then what you've got in the current bill is better than the status quo.

Not much.

But better.

And this rending of garments and ripping of hair by my progressive brothers and sisters strikes me as unproductive, unseemly, petulant and self-destructive.

Bio

After nearly a year of having problems and not knowing what was going on, I was finally told I had Parkinson’s Disease in 2000 and had Deep Brain Stimulation surgery in June 2007 as part of a clinical trial to determine the safety and tolerabilty of DBS in early PD. I'm having problems with balance and gait. But for the most part, I’m doing just fine. I live in Elkridge, MD with my wife, Gail, my stepson, T.J., and our two doggies, Raven and Shiloh.
