Matthew Hoh states, in part:

In his letter, the senior civilian representative in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, said he was resigning because "I fail to see the value or worth in continued U.S. casualties or expenditures of resources in support of the Afghan government in what is, truly, a 35-year-old civil war." He concluded the letter by saying that he had "lost confidence" that the "dead have sacrificed for a purpose worthy of futures lost, love vanished and promised dreams unkept."

"I believe that the people we are fighting there are fighting us because we are occupying them," Hoh told CNN earlier this week. "Not for any ideological reasons, not because of any links to al Qaeda, not because of any fundamental hatred towards the West. The only reason they're fighting us is because we're occupying them."

Currently (at least in Virginia) if you have a high deductible policy you cannot change it to a lower deductible, for exactly the reason you mention above. The only way to accomplish lowering your deductible is to get into a group plan for at least 2 years and then start all over again from scratch (assuming you didn't actually get sick during all that time).

What I REALLY don't understand is why they are trying to reinvent a square wheel! There are countries all over this world who do what we are trying to accomplish well. We could easily cherry-pick based on those country's experiences and costs and come up with something really excellent. But no, we have to get out the stone tablets and pound out our very own problem-laden system. Why is that? Can anyone tell me?

I am not condoning the republican way of keeping their "flocks" in line by threatening them with all kinds of things, but Joe is not supporting the party he claims to caucus with. He stabs that party in the back every chance he gets. I say ditch him!

How many people without insurance will go right away to get care? I'm pretty sure I wouldn't, and the point of Tamiflu is that you end up being contagious a shorter time, and you also are far less likely to develop the complications associated with bad outcomes.

For a country that has relied on the local grocery store to manage public health, it is time to wake up and go kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
