So far, I am truly impressed.

I think he is making his points in a way that most people can understand. He is not being too intellectual but at the same time, he is giving the right facts.

I thought the first question was reasonable, and he is answering it brilliantly

user-pic

Really. The contrast between him and "W" is appalling. How did we have that doofus in office for 8 years?

user-pic

I kept thinking of that ...... a great desire to meet every Rushian Republican's snark with side by side video of *our* president's press conference and *their* president's! His seriousness and thoughtfulness must have gotten through to some Republican Congressman or Senator. We'll see maybe by the end of the week. If not ....... I think he's right about the long-term effect of his approach with them.

user-pic

So agree. So far, the best. His style, delivery and gift for illiteration is superb.

Thanks for this thread.

user-pic

How can you be impressed. He just keeps repeating himself with long winded answers and has never once looked us in the eyes. This is pathetic. I can't believe he's reverted to this style.

user-pic

He looks the person/journalist he is responding to directly in the eye. His 'long winded' answers are not repetitive but explanatory.

user-pic

I think he's looking at you and your judgement is tarnished.

user-pic

It's never productive or constructive to denigrate another who has a different perception or judgment than you do.

These are my thoughts about the press conference and while I disagree with yours, I do so respectfully. I am not negating nor ridiculing you or your thoughts about this event, et al.

I apologize Aunt Sam. I'm very frustrated with the perilous state of our country, but that's no excuse to get snippy with a fellow patriot:)

user-pic

Thanks. I appreciate it. And yes, patriotism is alive and well here.

I understand and your frustration. But, may I ask, could this possibly have 'colored' your perception of the press conference?

user-pic

One of the things that colored my perception was Glenn Greenwald's post tonight about Obama upholding Bush's State Secrets privilege in a legal case against a Boeing subsidiary in a rendition and torture case.

Another thing is the appointment of Geithner as Treasury Secretary. The guy is a crook who is selling out our country's future. If McCain appointed him every Obama fan would be screaming about it.

Obama is simply a good marketer, and he'll do whatever Rahm and the banking overlords who financed his campaign tell him to do.

"I'm still consulting the Pentagon about whether we should allow the caskets to be photographed. There could still be some tactical advantage to al Queda if we don't stay the course with regard to that policy."

user-pic

He wants to review the entire directive to see what else is included. He is always thorough and doesn't want to speak until he is sure he knows all the details.

user-pic

If you say so. It's a pretty cut and dry issue. To photograph or not to photograph caskets of dead soldiers.

user-pic

He didn't answer Helen's question about whether there is a middle eastern country with nukes. Israel comes to mind...

user-pic

It's probably official US policy to not publicly acknowledge what all know re Israel, since Israel has never publicly admitted it, and we are nominal allies.

user-pic

Although the bar is at the floor because of Dubya, it doesn't surprise me that the far-right is critical of Obama because he is giving answers that he actually thinks about.

I wish he had said that the costs of this war have been hidden, and unshared for too long. Showing caskets is but one aspect and he is looking at many.

user-pic

Maura Liasson can go with Sean Hannity and they can just jump off a bridge! It pisses me off that she is on Fox News AND NPR, like Juan Williams! They are both jerks

user-pic

I wonder what the post-press conference gossip is about who got called on, and how ass might best be kissed in the future to get called on.

user-pic

The thing that most struck me was when he said that some plans are not going to work they way we think they're going to work. Imagine that. A grown up who understands that you can never anticipate every single barrier and signals that he can and will be flexible in response.

It's in stark contrast to W who was always so certain. I prefer a leader who knows he doesn't know everything.

user-pic

Amen, sister.

Bio

The first thing I did when I turned 16 was go out and apply for a passport. I've travelled widely, and lived in Europe for a while. I have 3 children; 23 (girl) 19 (boy twins), and after staying home with them for 17 years, I went back to nursing 3 years ago. It was hard to find someone to hire me, but I am in a wonderful office (infertility, ivf, etc) and work with great people.
