IOKIYAAR: Remember the Dixie Chicks?

Duncan, over at Eschaton, reminded me of something today. The massive, obvious, blatant double-standards in America and in the Media. Remember how the right went crazy when the Dixie Chicks said the following:

Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas.

They were banned from radio. They received death threats. They were blacklisted by the record industry. People organized massive boycotts and destroyed their records. Talk Radio went nuts.

Now, think about the things these same people have been saying about Obama and his family. Before and after the election. Faux News, for instance, pretty much on a daily basis has been calling Obama every nasty thing they can think of for months. Everything from terrorist, to terrorist sympathizer, to communist, to anti-American, to "trash". It's been relentless and widespread. If folks need a reminder, google video about Palin rallies, and listen to the vile things so many of her dittoheads said. While you're at it, look up how the Secret Service said that death threats against Obama and his family skyrocketed after Palin started saying that Obama "pals around with terrorists."

Can you imagine how the Media would have reacted to such a thing if it had been directed at Bush?

But when it comes to the right, and to the GOP especially, there are no repercussions. Michele Bachmann can actually foment revolution, and the Media let it slide. Various right wing goons on Fox, in the National Review, and all too many "conservative" publications can attack and insult Obama and his family with impunity, say horrifically ugly things, dangerous things, that rile up the fringe, with no repercussions. The Media are largely silent. Moveon.org brings out an ad about General Petraeus, and Congress censures it. Where are the Congressional censures for the comments made on a daily basis by "conservatives" in the Media and on Capitol Hill?

Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas.

That, rather mild comment created a violent storm on the right and in the MSM. If we put that up against what the right has been saying about Obama (and Pelosi, and Hillary, et al) for months, no sane person could reasonably say that the Dixie Chicks said anything remotely wrong, dangerous or unfair. No sane person could reasonably say that the vile attacks on the right against Obama weren't/aren't a thousand times worse. Yet virtually no response from the Media and silence from Congress.

"Conservatives" really don't realize how so many things in America are set up and maintained in their favor. They really don't get how good they have it. The establishment is on their side on most counts. The establish is conservative. The Ruling Elite are conservative. And while they constantly bitch and moan about the supposed "liberal bias" of the Media, they miss how the deck is OBVIOUSLY stacked in their favor. Again, it's time for the left to fight back. Hard, relentlessly, with passion. We have the facts on our side.

P.S.: Just read that Bachmann is accusing Obama of running "re-education camps for young people", implying that he's indoctrinating them like some communist dictator. Sheeesh. This woman has gone over the edge. Actually, she did long ago. Again, where is the outrage? She is actually saying very, very dangerous things, that put people at risk. It's time to fight back against this nonsense. Well past time.

Hey Rightwing Republicans--don't ya think it's time for a nice, soothing cup of Shut The Rush Up?

(I wish I had thought of that line when the Dems were running the Rush Limbaugh contest.)

If they didn't act like damn fools, they would be democrats!

Well said. Thanks.

The MSM seems to be in bed with the rightwing. They can make terroristic threats and none of the talking heads says anything.

I view the rightwing as America's version of Hamas or Hezbollah. Everyone is a bit afraid of them, they're crazy and extreme, and people are always making concessions to them in small ways, defensively so as not to give offense to the crazy faction that might explode with rage. Who knows what popular culture item will set them off next, but they seem to be perpetually angry and want to ban various enjoyments and generally dictate how everyone should live.

I find it interesting that your next post deals with fact checking but in this post you make vague generalities like:

"Conservatives" really don't realize how so many things in America are set up and maintained in their favor. They really don't get how good they have it. The establishment is on their side on most counts. The establish is conservative. The Ruling Elite are conservative."

"Various right wing goons on Fox, in the National Review, and all too many "conservative" publications can attack and insult Obama and his family with impunity, say horrifically ugly things, dangerous things, that rile up the fringe, with no repercussions."

I think that political parties in general are a joke. They don't stick to ideologies they simply gravitate towards the loudest voice that identifies themselves as being with their party. The media just perpetuates the idiocracy by giving credence and Americans are too lazy to do their own research. They would rather be spoonfed then come to a conclusion based on reason and facts. I don't care what party you align yourself with but at least give some credible information.

Tomw,

The examples are legion. And the conservative structure in place is obvious.

Corporations rule this country. They make government policy. They own the government, for all intents and purposes. Corporations are conservative by nature. Yes, there are some exceptions. Progressive corporations do exist. But the vast majority of them align with the very same things that conservatives hold dear:

Low to no taxation
Low to no regulation
Low to no government oversight of their businesses
"Freedom" to be as bad as they want to be.

Conservatives generally forget, in the midst of their self-pity parties, that the MSM are owned by huge multinational corporations. Their own best interests, their conception of those best interests, fall in nicely with conservative ideology, not liberal or progressive. They may throw a bone, now and then, to liberals and progressives on "social issues", which tends to distract the American people all too much. But on core economic, military, environmental and health issues . . . . they're true red-staters.

And, study after study shows the dominance of Republican voices on the air. They outnumbered Clinton reps during his administration. They outnumbered the Dems during the Bush administration. And even now, with the Obama administration in power and a Dem Congress, they outnumber Dems still. Look at the Sunday Talk shows. Follow the numbers. It's about a 2 to 1 advantage for the Republicans.

Another example: Think about all of the ex-Bushies on the MSM now. Compare that with ex-Clintonistas. Republicans win on that score as well. Have you read the WaPo editorial page lately? It's conservative. It has a conservative slant . . . .

Basically, even the so-called "liberal" media court conservatives heavily. They woo them. They sign them. The same can not be said for conservative media outlets and progressives.

In short, conservative ideology is pro-corporate, pro-military-industrial complex, against environmental protections, against consumer protections, against peaceful coexist around the globe, pro-Christian, etc. etc. That syncs up quite nicely with the Establishment, including the Media.

A progressive stance on the issues goes against the best interests of the Elite and the Establishment. We want to REDUCE their stranglehold on power. Conservatives, in general, want to protect that stranglehold.

Conservatives just don't realize how good they have it in America.
