Joe Klein: For death squads.

Caveat, though: Against killing nuns.

Fleeting Moment Of Civility

Maybe I'm wrong, but considering all this guy's done lately, shouldn't we drop the "freedom fries" bit?

Netroots Growing

A timely report relating to our Cafe's current discussion about the netroots -- we're growing:

The number of Americans who cited the internet as their primary source of campaign news in 2006 doubled since the last mid-term election

Twice as many Americans used the internet as their primary source of news about the 2006 campaign compared with the most recent mid-term election in 2002.

A post-election survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project and the Pew Research Center for The People & The Press shows that the 2006 race also produced a notable class of online political activists. Some 23% of those who used the internet for political purposes – the people we call campaign internet users – actually created or forwarded online original political commentary or politically-related videos.

Judgment, Not Experience

Well, already it looks like "experience" is one of the themes of the 08 race, certainly in the news media, and certainly when it comes to Barack Obama.

This isn't any endorsement of Obama, not by a long shot. But I don't think experience matters much in this race. In fact, experience has hurt us more than it's helped.

Experienced people get entrenched in their ideas about the world around them. It's the "Who Moved My Cheese?" problem. It's why the current Administration, the "Adults," continued to fight the cold war, even after getting a memo stating "bin Laden Determined To Attack Inside U.S."

Judgment should be the standard by which the candidates should be measured.

Blaming Iraqis

I'm sure this is a quote that will be pulled back out often:

BUSH: ...I think the Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude, and I believe most Iraqis express that. I mean, the people understand that we've endured great sacrifice to help them. That's the problem here in America. They wonder whether or not there is a gratitude level that's significant enough in Iraq.
