iPhone?

The big rumor is Apple's going to unveil a new "iPhone" next week. Wired has a good take on how this could really work, by seamlessly synching your phone (and music, email, photos, videos, calendar...) with your computer.

The more exciting product, for me, is the previously announced iTV. It essentially allows you to turn your TV and home theater audio setup into a new UI for your computer, substituting a remote for the keyboard. (Note: Not conducive to blogging. Very conducive to lying on the couch.)

It puts Apple's Front Row on your TV. Very cool...can't wait.

Hot, Hot, Hot

Well, maybe not hot, but this weekend it's going to hit 70 degrees here in New York City.

And, to think, this weekend is also "Winter Trails Day":

IMPORTANT: Please call your selected Winter Trails location in advance of the event. Some locations have changed and others have cancelled due to weather-related issues. If your event is in the eastern US, please check before going even if a cancellation is not posted on this site.

More bad news, from USA Today:

With temperatures running 10 to 20 degrees above normal through much of the Midwest and East Coast, ice fishing tournaments in Minnesota have been scrapped; New England horse-drawn sleighs are using tires instead of runners. Snow-starved European skiers were cheering this week's dumping at Alpine resorts, the first since Dec. 9, amid warnings from the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development that climate change could force many lower-elevation resorts to close within 14 years.

Any bets on when winter will actually arrive?

Maverick

McCain, today:

When I voted to support this war, I knew it was probably going to be long and hard and tough, and those that voted for it and thought that somehow it was going to be some kind of an easy task, then I’m sorry they were mistaken. Maybe they didn’t know what they were voting for.

McCain, yesterday:

“Because I know that as successful as I believe we will be, and I believe that the success will be fairly easy, we will still lose some American young men or women.” [CNN, 9/24/02]

Wanker.

Screw Bipartisanship

I hope the Democrats aren't taking all this "new era of bipartisanship" crap too seriously. I hope their memory of the last 12 years, when they got played for suckers over and over again, hasn't faded too quickly.

Maybe saying "bipartisanship" makes some people feel better, but Democrats seriously run the risk of being the Charlie Brown to Lucy's football trick, once again.

PS -- And, as Chris Bowers points out, the American people don't even care about the issue.

Virtual House Of Reps

The Times is reporting a House is being formed in Second Life. If you're unfamiliar, Second Life is an online virtual world that is quickly blurring the lines between real and not real (including an economy based on currency that can be exchanged for U.S. dollars). A real-life Rep. has been invited to the inaugural meeting:

Representative George Miller, a California Democrat and close political ally of Representative Nancy Pelosi, who will become the first female House speaker tomorrow, has been invited to discuss her swearing-in and first 100 hours agenda with Second Life users. His office is “looking into the possibility of participating,” according Daniel Weiss, his chief of staff, though Mr. Gage said that he had confirmed.

Anyone got a ticket?
