What Other Laws Should We Ignore as reasons to --"Save Lives"
Why are the media even listening to former VP Dick Cheney and his daughter about the possible war crimes; but
especially why do we care what he says? That's like listening and talking to Adolf Hitler or
the Godfather about the reasons for gassing Jews or killing other gang
members and local citizens? We're listening to the GUILTY and accepting HIS reasoning for committing the crimes. That does not compute.
I'm not saying Cheney is as BAD as Hitler was but he DID advocate going
against the Constitution and is still supporting the IDEA that torture
worked so therefore we should disobey our own laws.
Does this give the police, FBI and fire depts the right to torture
prisoners in the jails or arrested -- if it means possibly saving
lives? I mean, think about it. What if we capture a member of the
drug cartel. We know that his selling drugs can cause death among
those that use those drugs. Should we torture him to find out other
gang member's names to save lives?
Do you have a limit as to how far you will go to quote, save lives?
Should we euthanize people with the H1N1 virus --- after all, it could save others from catching it and possibly dying. How far should we go with this ignoring of our laws?

Geez Coonsey, hope Cheney and his ilk don't see some of these questions - you brought up stuff I haven't even considered.
Good point and sadly, points well taken.
Thanks.
Rec'd.

Dick Cheney told you he had to invade Iraq because there was a connection between Saddam and 9/11.
There wasn't.
He told you that he had to invade Iraq in order to save the world from Saddam's weapons of mass destruction.
There were no weapons of mass destruction.
He told you in June of 2005 that the insurgency in Iraq was in its last throes.
Hardly.
Now he tells you that he committed war crimes to "save lives".
And he does so with that signature smugness and blind manipulative arrogance. But this time, it's accompanied by a nervousness, a fear that wasn't present before.
We see a crack in the cold calculating facade of this faux patriot.
He realizes that he cannot sell his lies wholesale anymore. Sure, he can sell the beltway media on his pathetic feebly constructed "I did it for my country" narrative. But the beltway media will buy anything. It is the lowest hanging fruit in terms of gullibility.
The problem for Cheney, really, is the rest of the world.
To the rest of the world, he's lost all credibility.
And to a salesman like Cheney, credibility is more important than honor.

Well, you posed an interesting question. The Constitution was written in large part to protect the citizens from their own government, not to protect them from foreign governments. That leads to the "unfortunate" requirement that many people the police "know" are evil monsters, who committed horrible crimes, be allowed to walk free, because there is no proof the the police know what they are talking about. So, we can save a lot of lives if we just allow the police to kill any of us they "know" will commit crimes in the future. For many cops, that is an easy decision, that is made largely by observing the reflectivity of a persons skin.
Perhaps the single most effective way to save lives would be to execute any Republicans who get elected to Congress. That should stop most future needless wars, and we know how many people get killed in those. It's a good trade off too - say 50 senators and maybe 200 house representatives, in exchange for thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of innocent lives. And, the best part of this brilliant idea is that since we don't need to follow the Constitution, we can just have an executive order set up the program.
I'm on a roll here!

While I don't advocate killing anybody, your points are well made.
