Hey Coonsey, good find. Great rhetoric although his admin was not quite in line with its sentiments.
But can you imagine cheney saying anything like this?
I would like to hear it from our New President however.
Wow - great speech and as DD said above, would I love to hear it from Obama. What a different country this might have been if these thoughts were followed through on in so many adminstrations, especially the last.
Thanks Coonsey!
Thanks for the great find...I'd like to know how you came across this poignant message.
We need to be reminded that America stands for:
"elections" instead of subversion,
"free choice" instead of intimidation.
Powerful stuff Bill. I saw a lot of the History Channel's stuff, but this seems to draw a different conclusion. Looks like I have homework to do.
Off-topic meta, I'm not really sure I understand why you're doing so many posts, especially with so little of your own writing.
If you think there are lots of things to interest people, why not put together a Coonsey summary-of-the-day, things found interesting, and insert quotes between the different sections. I'm sitting here looking at 5 of 10 TPMDC selections as "Coonsey", with several far-from-urgent topics (to be fair, for the Empathy post you did write a fair bit).
Why are you all a-flutter about this speech? It's a call by JFK for the press to engage in Cold War self-censorship.

Holy Hand Grenade! That packs a punch.
I have never heard this before. I was struck by the emotion in his voice when he said the part about 'not covering up our mistakes'.
Wow! I hope this gets widely circulated. Thanks!
