Cheney: No MAJOR attacks in the U.S.?
Just a quick question. Has anybody else noticed that when form Vice President Cheney mentions that there's not been another attack in the United States for almost 8 years that he QUALIFIES that statement almost every time with the word 'Major'? What exactly does that mean? Did we get attacked and the story was kept quiet?
We all know that in the beginning, at least the first 5 years, the media was pretty much backing everything the Bush administration did or said. You might remember how they would use the administrations talking points each and every Sunday morning on the talk shows.
So, in order to avoid panic, did the media (if they knew) keep quiet about an attack? To give an example of how they worked for the administration and not for their readers/listeners, remember the famous CIA agent's name being leaked out and how one person in the media even went to jail to keep their secrets.
Perhaps somebody needs to ask the former vice president if he knows of ANY attacks in the United States or it's territories since 9/11?

Anthrax?
I know, apparently not AQ, but it fits his need to distract.

How do we know it wasn't AQ? It was a big deal as long as Bush/Cheney needed it to be a big deal and then it just kind of fell through the cracks.
But of course it looks like it came from a US gov weapons lab. Who could have gotten weapons grade anthrax from a US government lab and sent it to legislators (who just coincidentally were likely to oppose the patriot act) at a very critical time of the vote on the PATRIOT ACT?
I know you are all aware of this but lest we allow ourselves to forget. Obviously our "media watchdogs" have forgotten or would rather we forget. Nothing here to see, gotta look forward.

Why is it that he never mentions the fact that before the Bush administration there were no major attacks from overseas terrorists at all?
Attacks from foreign terrorists on the scale of 9/11 are like 10,000 year floods. The fact that one hasn't happened in the last 8 years means nothing. A 10,000 year flood may not have occurred during the Bush administration's time either (unless Katrina was one?), but it doesn't prove that the Bush administration was effective at stopping 10,000 year floods. With an event of such a low probability, the odds will make you a success most of the time, regardless of whether you're competent or a bumbling fool.

Good point Purple State about no attacks from OVERSEAS during Clinton years

Hmmm... I guess he does not consider the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq MAJOR attacks on the U.S.
But the reality is that they created huge targets for Al Queada and the Taliban and anyone else that wanted to join in by starting two wars. As a retired general pointed out why would they attack us on our own soil when there is so much advantage for them to be at war with us there?

Actually, when you think about the Clinton years, the first attack on the World Trade Towers was just 28 days into his presidency and he kept us safe for 8 years after that. No one likes to mention that.

The worst terrorist attack on American soil, on Cheney's watch.
The worst foreign policy blunder in American history-the Iraq war, on Cheney's watch.
The worst concocted intelligence estimates in American history (Saddam's WMDs? link between Saddam and Al Qaeda? Iran's Nuclear weapons stockpile?) 0 for 3, all on Cheney's watch.
The hunt for the Al Qaeda leader who started all this, Osama Bin Laden, is massively under-resourced and efforts are exhausted after just 12 months-- Bin Laden spends 8 years reconstituting, recruiting, rebuilding Al Qaeda network in Af-Pak,... all on Cheney's watch.
Meanwhile, an estimated 500,000 to 1,000,000 Iraqi civilians are killed, millions of others displaced, over 5,000 U.S. soldiers lose their lives, and thousands of others return with lost limbs, lost minds, and lost health benefits, fighting a war that Cheney lied them into, and the rest of America, and the world, for that matter.
A culture of torture, extraordinary rendition, and illegal wiretapping is instituted and America descends into a period of systemic corruption across all branches of government, there are no checks and balances, executive branch and judicial branch operate with complete impunity, congress plays the subservient role of rubber stamp, corporate institutions become criminal enterprises, oil goes from $25 to $145, the EPA pretends there's no such thing as a climate crisis, no need to regulate C02 emissions, the auto industry cranks out large thirsty road pets non-stop knowing they have two Texas oil men running the White House--and consequently, the entire economy directly into the ground-creating the worst global financial crisis since the Great Depression.
Banks are insolvent, the American auto industry vanishes, hundreds of thousands of hard working Americans lose their jobs, their homes, their health insurance and are stripped of their pride and unwavering belief that America was is and always will be that shining beacon of morality and liberty and decency, that once celebrated red, white and blue storied home of the free and the brave.
There has not been a major terrorist attack on U.S. soil since Cheney failed to protect us from the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil.
In my estimation, we didn't require another terrorist to further destroy America and her ideals.
We had Dick Cheney for that.

Bingo! Though he did have a gang of followers helping him wreak havoc on america. In fact I remember writing to both Bush & Cheney, and senators and congressmen during the debate before the vote on the Iraq stating exactly that...
you are now the terrorists.

Acutally, if we take the Bush argument at face value, we went to Iraq so we wouldn't have to fight them here.
The result has been us fighting them there. And some 4000 US military have been killed, many in terrorist-type sneak attacks with roadside bombs.
So it seems false to claim we haven't been attacked, since "we" are being attacked on a daily basis.
That 4000 is greater than the toll on 9/11 and isn't showing any sign of going down soon, esp. with Af/pak destabilizing.
