Hey Rush, Why Not Take On Somebody in Your Own Profession: Ed Schultz for Example

So, Rush wants to have a debate with the President of United States huh?  Too bad he didn't offer to take on President George W Bush in the same manner.

Nope!  Don't think so Rush, sorry.  Not until you put your job on the line with American voters and run for the presidential political office.

Until your job relies on what you say and do (and not how you 'perform') it just wouldn't be fair.

Now if you want a 'fair' debate, how about you try and take on Ed Schultz from the radio show, The Ed Schultz Show.  He matches your profession, only he's of the opposite view politically.  He's also willing to debate professionals on live television which I've yet to see you do.  Now 'there's' debate, I'm sure, would draw thousands if not millions to watch.

I'm betting that several television stations would jump for the chance of sponsoring such debate.  CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC and even your friends at FOX would sponsor it I'm sure.  Just ask them.

So Rush, whens the big day?  When will you take on somebody other then a uneducated  or inexperienced radio listener?  I'm sure Ed would love to accommodate you.  Let us know so we can go out and buy tickets or set aside time to watch the show.

If Ed's not available, I'll nominate Rachel Maddow.

Thom Hartmann would beat Rush senseless with soft spoken facts. He would self-destruct having nothing with which to respond.

When I heard him make those comments all I could think of was "Who in the f**k does he think he is?"

It might be fun to watch him debate Putin, Osama BinLadin and the Queen of England. Why doesn't he try to arrange those as well. In the meantime, Ed Shultz would be great (the dittoheads would declare Rush the winner before it even started, however). Facts? They don't need no stinkin' facts!

Don't overreact to Limbaugh challenging Obama to a debate. He certainly knows that will never happen.

What he did, though, was get people like Chris Matthews to spend airtime talking about the very idea. You know, "all publicity is good publicity" and what not.

Sadly, there is no chance that Limbaugh would ever agree to debate, say, Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, or even a Josh Marshall or Markos Moulitsas.

Personally, I'd love to see such a debate. But Rush isn't about facts, truth or logic. He's playing to his base, and trying to pump up his own Reichwing balloon. I say, let him go ahead and do that. He can continue to be a hero to 15-20% of the country, and the next few election cycles should reflect that to the Dems' benefit.

We Want Ed! We Want Ed!

Come on Ed Schultz -- challenge Rush Limbaugh to a debate. Make him put up or shut up.

Rush had his shot to seriously debate politics with everyone on the left in the last election.

Oxy-Rush's main arguments:
Magic negro songs
YES YOU halfriCAN!
Marxist!
Socialist!
Communist!

We know what the left's (varied, I know!) and Obama's arguments were.

Result?

About 70 million voters gave a landslide victory to Obama.

The debate is already over and el rushito does not get a second chance.

Apologies for picking on this post... but TPM NEVER gives me the magic 'create' or 'write' box that should let me have my own ;-(

Leave off on the FAT issue with Rush. Demographics would lead us to believe that most folks including Rush's rotunditude are more than likely overweight themselves.

Being FAT is NOT an indicator of moral failing, idiocy, poor self control (this one's the most plausible but science seems to imply its more complicated).

Most of the readers are probably fat. Most Americans are fat. While I believe most Americans are at best undereducated and possibly downright STUPID on politics... there is no causal relationship here.

Rush may be stupid/idiotic/uneducated.

Rush may be 'playing us' and not actually be as stupid as his statements would imply.

Rush may be a narcissistic windbag.

But being fat doesn't increase the likelihood of any of these more relevant characteristics.

Besides - it makes ya'll look like you've run out of useful insults and have had to resort to 'and your mama dresses you funny'.

Now look, if Rush was a POW, you might have a point. Take John McCain... he's a POW! He was incarcerated for five long years... no table, no chair, no healthcare, no flags, no nuthin'. Rush doesn't like him cause he's not a "conservative" but John McCain -- especially when compared to Rush Limbaugh -- is not fat.

Rush Limbaugh is fat. He is a big, fat idiot. But although he is an idiot, that is another comment all together. This is just about Limbaugh being fat.

Fact: Rush is not a POW.
Fact: He is large, no, huge, no elephantine!!!
Fact: He is a Fat Man. The man is fat.
Fact: He hosts an incendiary and ugly talk show, but let's face it, the man is fat. Fat. Fat. Fat. F-A-T, fat. Not phat, not babyPhat. Just plain old FAT. Too fat to sit in your momma's antique chair fat. So fat the bed collaspes, fat. Jack Sprat's wife fat. He is Orson Welles, Marlon Brando, Sophie Tucker, Kate Smith, Jackie Gleason, Fatty Arbuckle all combined together fat. He is SuperFat. He is circus-freak FAT FAT FAT!

We are not talking about other people who do not abuse OxyContin, alcohol, "prescription" drugs, crystal meth, Ritalin, tobacco, and food all at the same time. We are just talking about Rush "Two Tons" Limbaugh. The big fat guy with the big fat mouth on the radio. Just that fat guy. No one else.

In what respect, Charlie?

PS: One small factual correction. Rush Limbaugh is, in fact, a POW(endy's).

rush has his formula as you point out. A fair trial attorney would rip him a new one on cross within minutes.

I forgot where, but he fell apart recently.

Then, he went ahead and lost his place after half an hour of ranting and began stumbling and repeating himself and some critics felt he was hopped up on something.

user-pic

Much as I appreciate Ed Schultz, it's never struck me that he has the natural intellectual ability nor the research team to take on somebody like Rush who has a lot of useful experience plus a deep bag of tricks. I could be wrong, but I fear Ed would tire in the ninth round.

Rachel Maddow, now she's a different story. It would be interesting to see how that would go.

But my all-time favorite cage match would be Rush v. Stephen Colbert, a mano-a-mano challenge in which both pledge that the loser will surrender the character that made him famous.

When I get discouraged about things, I think of Colbert's remarks at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, and like Julie Andrews, I can sing once more.

user-pic

Oh yeah! He would make a great guest on Colbert!
