What Are Other Nations Thinking?

While President George W Bush makes his last televised statement tonight what will our allies and enemies be saying or doing?  Will they listen?  Will they be celebrating or crying?

While President Barack Hussein Obama is being inaugurated on Tuesday, what will our allies and enemies be saying or doing?  Are they watching?  Do they feel happy, ready for a new day, sad or disillusioned?

I remember watching our 24 hour news stations like CNN, MSNBC and FOX reporting from overseas after 9/11.  We saw how others felt about what had happened to the U.S..  We saw tears, sadness and people praying for us.

I hope the news stations will air similar broadcasts, both tonight and on Tuesday.  I would like to hear and see what 'others' are thinking during these major events in our history.  Are they bored with it, do they care?  Are they delighted or saddened?

Some of you will most likely say, "Who cares what others think of us."  Well, to you folks I say -- I do.  As we've been told many times in the past, we are a global economy.  Our neighbors may be miles away but in today's world, they are in reality as close as next door.

We need everybody on this earth to help keep her yearning for a 'brighter future' in order to save her.

To those who say, "Who cares what other people say" I would suggest that not hearing their voices has left them in a state of denial that there was a problem. I suggest they listen to what people say BEFORE they dismiss it. Otherwise arrogance will prevent them from findings a way to do things better. They will be left to assume what they did was best, when in fact, it was not.

Those people who say "Who cares what others think of us." are the same 23% who think Bush is doing a good job as President. They have been lobotomized and are beyond help or hope.

Remember we have all these Brit papers on the net and other European papers, etc. But Tuesday is going to be a world event of the first order.

It does not take much prescience to predict a billion or more people, world wide with gadgets ranging from brown berries, to giant screens all being used.

Good take on Brits reaction to the latest w interviews on this site.

I care what others think and I think Bush did an OK job as President. I think it will be pretty obvious when the next conflict or natural disaster strikes what other nations think.

Other countries will continue to look to the US for help, whether it's a Russia/Georgia conflict or it's another typhoon in Asia.

MiddleClassBill, you think Bush did an OK job????? Where have you been for the past 8 years? Are you one of those WEALTHIER Americans that benefited from Bush's policies? Are you an employee that works in Iraq that benefited from that war?

Of course we'll BE THERE for other nations, that's who WE are; however, will THEY be there for US?

It's been amazing all along how unambiguously and completely the UK and Western Europe have "gotten it", as to GWB's puerile cluelessness and inappropriateness in his role, while in the US it took crimes and incompetence on an epic scale before the erosion of positive perception seemed to set in. Republican popularity seems anchored in nothing other than excessive religious preoccupation, bigotry based on ignorance and fundamental anti-intellectualism. Contrasting the world's perception with ours makes for a discouraging self-assessment. I do believe that whoever is in the White House can have an imprinting effect on the national character. Here's hoping.
