Obama Should Recognize Email Supporters Too
We hear about all sorts of things President-elect Barack
Obama plans on doing for those in the
Perhaps the President-elect should do something for his email supporters as well. We email supporters have worked hard to help Obama to get elected. We deserve a "Thank you too".
Perhaps sending each and every one of us a signed photo of the President and Vice President through our email would please most of us. I'm sure even our names could be added to the signatures. Something like:
Thanks for your support Joe Smith,
President Barack Obama and Vice
President Joe Biden
Or perhaps they could send a special invitation or thank you card signed by both the President and Vice President through the mail (without asking for more money).

I got a photo after the election through the mail. And also a lovely invitation to the inauguration just last week. Snail mail both.

TheraP: You must have donated a lot more than I or your have close connections. I did get one of those golden tickets and the offer to buy other items.
I know several supporters that haven't received even that.

I did not get a "golden ticket" - unless you mean the nice piece of paper in an official envelope .... but yes, the same offer to buy stuff.... which I threw away.
I have no connections and did not donate to the max or anywhere near it, but I did get that lovely photo after the election.
Did you volunteer? I did a bit.

No I didn't volunteer but I did write letters to editors across America and supported his campaign on my website a great deal. I offered to volunteer here in my local area but was never called.

Therp, are you serious? All I get from them is more request to donate money. I never even got the text message as to who he picked to be his VP. I learned of it cause the story broke on CNN. I feel like Rodney Dangerfield-"no respect."

Coonsey did you make a donation? I received an invite and pix and donated nowhere near the max. However, I did volunteer, knock on doors, work the polls. As far as not getting called either did I I just went down to the office and presented myself.
My question how does the Obama Team know you did the stuff you did?

I got the invitation, but no picture, alas.
I donated and made calls.

Ditto on all counts.
In the end, I appreciate the commemorative invite and will likely hang on to it. But it means about the same as the 2 Obama lawn signs I kept hold of, the Obama magnet on my fridge, and so on. They're nice keepsakes, but insignificant.
The real thanks for my work came on Nov. 4.

How true.

I donated but not near the max just enough to get recorded as doing so.
I also blogged on their website and communicated with the local president of the Democrat Party on a regular basis.
I also sent them emails constantly voicing my opinions and support.
I did not knock on doors which I'm not physically capable to do these days, nor did I make phone calls which I'm also handicapped at.
I would think however there are many like myself that did other things. By donating alone, you'd think we'd be one of the 'special ones'.
I did get a picture of Obama/Biden day of election, signed by Biden (not Obama).

Jsfox: they should KNOW me by my donation(s). That's doing SOMETHING too.

Don't misunderstand, I was just looking for clarification and now that I have it. I am surprised you have not recv'd something in the mail

Speaking of donations....
I just received an email offering me to purchase a an unforgettable limited edition poster of Obama created by graphic artist Shepard Fairey.
Asking for ANOTHER donation of course.

To be fair, the poster is completely awesome.

Yes it is; but my point is -- I have to PAY for anything I get from them. For once I'd like recognition for my support.
Does that sound selfish? I guess it does after thinking about it. Oh well.

Coonsey, When I donated money, (three times), and volunteered I asked not to be included in the campaign's mailing list. Hence, I've not received any pics or invites. Just wondering if you may have done something like this as well.

I thought it was John McCain that was promising an end to all wars, a superfantabulous economy, and a unicorn in every garage.

No I did not ask to be removed from mailing list - if I had I wouldn't still be getting emails and even text messages.

Received the heavy vellum "invitation" to the inauguration and, until reality pertained, at first shook the envelope upside down to discover the enclosed tickets to specific events. (Do feel free to laugh at display of belief in tooth fairy, etc.; after all, I did, however sheepishly.) Did not receive the photo, which is too bad... although, where would I put it? Next to the hearth, near the washed out photo of a long dead pope? (Kidding). On balance, worried about number of trees and gallons of ink expended but still, nice thought for Obama team to say thanks, one way or another.

The photo was of the two couples the night of Nov 4. And I got it a few weeks later. I'm sure I can't be the only one!

I have made three contributions to Obama. Once during the primaries, once during the post-primary campaign, and a last one after the election. I never received anything but more requests for money. Of course, I donated because I wanted Obama to win, not because I wanted a picture. There are not shortage of those. I can, however, see how contributors would like a little something to show off to their buddies.
I'll also say that most of my family donates a little money to the Republican candidate, and they have ALWAYS gotten a nice big pretty picture signed by the candidate. I wonder what they are going to do with the McCain picture?

Well I'm a Hillary supporter who donated and canvassed for Obama out of state after the primary ended so I'm on everyone's send me money list. I received both the picture and the inaugural packet (in addition to requests for more donations). The obama campaign really excels at micro-targeting. They were even thoughtful enough to include darts with the Obama and Biden picture. (I kid, I kid).

They always communicate with me. They ask me for money. If I had any, I would send it in.

I'm fairly certain I'm not the only one here who recognizes a pattern that, perhaps, reflects a donation of service to the campaign was the threshhold for receiving a personalized invitation or printed notice regarding the inauguration.
Although I don't want to minimize the financial contributions of those such as coonsey and myself (I also did not offer any service-oriented volunteerism to the campaign), I also made my financial donations, absent any expectation of near-future, readily tangible returns. I, of course, had a choice to purchase campaign paraphenalia (sp?) with the price of my purchase effectively resulting in a campaign donation.
I donated, financially, in the hopes of electing Obama to facilitate strong, sound policy and responsible governance. I can't eat an inaugural invitation, I can't pawn it to pay bills, it won't save my job and it's not going to help me pay for my prescriptions.
With all due respect to Coonsey, I find the premise of this post a bit short-sighted.
