If Obama Were Bush -- We'd Be Demanding Answers NOW
I'm going to be the first Dem and strong supporter of Obama's to say that he should KNOW by NOW who had contact with whom with respects to Blagojevich. If this were Bush or some republican we'd be DEMANDING to know the facts NOW.
I'm betting somebody in Obama's admin DID talk to Blago and they are working with their lawyers right now to see how deep they are in trouble -- if any -- and Obama is waiting to hear 'that' info before signing off....on NO involvement what so ever by HIS team.
I have yet to hear whether it was true that Obama met with Blago on November 5th. Anybody know? A Chicago website reported it but now it's gone.
I'm betting there are a few people in the Democratic Party that are enjoying Obama squirm over this issue -- want to guess who?

According to Maddow last night, it is gone because there was no proof there ever was such a meeting or that one planned.
as to the rest of your diary. Please go listen to his presser today.

I did. He said he'd give more info in a few days. Why the wait? This is hurting his image NOW. He needs to get it OUT of the way NOW. Not let things drag on which only serves to harm more.

Could it be because they believe there was no contact by anybody, but with transition staff of well into the hundreds they want to be sure somebody, anybody hasn't talked to Blago or one of his staff so they can answer honestly.

I think today's comment buys him a couple of more days.Realistically until Sunday's talk shows. And provided he or someone from his team then gives a final answer no harm will be done.
I don't much care whether he is using the time to obtain information or huddle with the lawyers. Just so he gives his best and final answer on Sunday.

Honestly and accurately, that is? So the Sarah Palins of the world can't pull a below-the-belt gotcha on our new President?

IF someone talked to Blago it does not mean they are in trouble legally. It may cause PR trouble, but the fact remains: Blago said that Obama's team were not willing to pay to play. And you can count me out in your hypothetical If-This-Was-Bush scenario. If Fitzgerald got up there and made it clear that Bush was not implicated, I'd accept that. If Blago had called Bush a MoFo, I would guess that Bush didn't take the bait. And I would think any Dems pouncing on it the way the RNC has, would be stupid. The GOP is not alone when it comes to stirring up non-controveries.

I'll say it again, you nitwit: if this was the Bush Administration they'd just lie about it, so which would you rather?
Obama is trying to avoid making statements he can't back up or has to retract.

I totally agree with the fact that Blago SAID Obama's people refused anything but appreciation....but.....the media and republicans are having a hay day discussing why Obama doesn't fess up WHO Blago talked to (even if they said NO DEAL).
If they said NO DEAL....then did they turn around and report Blago to Feds for trying to make a deal? Or did they just ignore him all together and the feds know this? This could hurt whomever did the talking to Blago.
Somebody did - that we know for sure, since Blago says that Obama's team refused to offer anything.
I just think the sooner that info is out the BETTER.

Another point....if Obama waits too long he will appear to be playing another Bush Admin -- ride out the storm and never give complete facts thereby leaving a cloud over his admin before he even takes the pledge.

OMG - Coonsey has no degenerated to irrational, ill-informed, conspiracy rants against Obama. Quick, someone mention Hillary or Bill and lure coonsey back into the fold! Or... she suspects Hillary as the Obama Administration person who talked to Blago. That must be it.

Deny all you want but SOMEBODY talked to Blago or else he wouldn't have said what he said about Obama's not offering anything but appreciation. Who was it? Why arent' they fessing up? To me, I'd be PROUD to say I told Blago to go to hell....unless of course, I didn't report the conversation to the feds.
no conspiracy -- just facts, that's all I want.
And Dijamo....yes I'm sure H is laughing her head off over this event.

Well Jesse Jackson Jr. is #5, and Rahm's position is a little funny. We'll see.
And I don't think H is laughing - downed by scandal on Day 1? No, not pleasant, makes her job intensely difficult.

If Obama were Bush he wouldn't have answered questions at a press conference today. It would have been Robert Gibbs or someone like that.

You sound like a whining three year old. " I want to know NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW WAHHHHHHHHHHHH NOW!" Please spare me the pre pubescent bullshit. He will come out with the full info as he himself gets it. If he knew the full extent of any conversations his aides had they would have been out, period.

You imply that I'm HOPING for something to COME OUT to hurt Obama when in fact it's quite the opposite. I want all details out ASAP before the media and Obama haters have a chance to undercut his whole inauguration with 'possible' scandal scoops.
Somebody talked to Blago -- whoever it was needs to come forward NOW -- if they respect anything about Obama's champaign, his candidacy and now his presidency they would.
If that person's been ordered to keep quiet - then say so. Quit giving us the, "It depends on what the meaning of IS, is" comments. We or I. Who is WE?
I trying to help the guy -- why am I being attacked here?

You have gone off of the deep-end, believing the half-truths and deceptions being spun out in a Neocon circle-jerk.
It was not a Chicago website. It was the CBS affiliate serving the tristate area
out of Quincy Illinois, KHQA7. They did not simply remove the article, they retracted it. It was not accurate. An Associated Press article covering a Blagojevich press conference on Nevember 5, 2008, has Blagojevich stating that he had not spoken to Obama, nor was there any indication that he planned to later that day.
Basing a claim upon a now retracted story, found only upon one website of a backwater network affiliate, is ridiculous, and whoever started claiming that it was a Chicago affiliate is attempting to cover-up the original source, to give the lie more weight.
I've used up my to link max per comment, so I'll start another one.

I think Nate Silver's analysis of this crap is worth reading, especially if you're as dismally uninformed as you appear to be.
As Nate points out,
Key word there: "SHOULD"
There is absolutely no evidence that Blagojevich actually spoke with Obama and tried to get something out of him, nor is there really evidence that he even spoke with the transition team. Thus, Obama is currently investigating in his transition team to find out if anyone actually DID speak with Blagojevich. Until anything is found, they should be considered innocent. With the way you and some in the media, on top of the RNC talk, you'd think Obama was actually guilty of something. What the hell?

If you look and read what Obama has actually said, he has not said that he never talked to Blagojevich, only that he did not talk to him about the Senate selection. This rumour is being facilitated with use of an out of context quote to imply more that what Obama meant. The ABC News Jack Tapper article is usually the original source, when the tracks are traced backwards. Yet, in the Tapper article is found:
Obama could have been more specific in what he said, but taken in context with the question, it is transparent that he did not claim that he'd never spoken to Blagojevich, only that he had not spoken to him about the Senate pick.
The Chicago Fox News show where it's claimed that Axelrod stated that Obama had talked to Blagojevich about it is less than clear, even without Axelrod's retraction. Recordings of the show are getting taken down quickly on YouTube, but I was able to view one before it had been removed. Here is my transcription of the part in question:
Axelrod said that Obama had not expressed a preference, but that he'd talked to Blagojevich. He did not say that Obama had talked to Blagojevich about the Senate selection.
Obama has stated that his team had no improper dealings with Blagojevich, not that there were no contacts with him. There is a chasm of difference between the two. The is a very sound reason why Obama would not presently be completely forthcoming about contacts his team did have with Blagojevich: he does not want to interfere with an ongoing criminal investigation. Fox News has laid out an excellent timeline, and then proceeded to spin it negatively against Obama. My take on the timeline is that the Obama team member who was told what Blagojevich wanted, immediately refused, and went to the Fed with the information. Then they cut-off all communication with Blagojevich unless asked by Fitzgerald to do otherwise in furtherance of his investigation.
Quit swallowing the swill distilled for right-tards, ok?

And I swear I know that the 'talk' ended up with Rahm saying: ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? GO SCREW YOURSELF.

Quit listening to the RIGHT????? I'm listening to those same folks, media and political pundits and even Democrats that seem to support Obama since day one. They have the same questions as I do.
As for the 'chicago' story (sorry, that was my mistake - I couldn't remember where I saw it) --- I had not heard of any RETRACTION, just that the story no longer was on website.
Again I say, the more Obama delays in getting all the facts out (those involved are very few I would imagine) -- the worse it will be for HIM.
If you disagree then you are just in La La Land.

Folks,
Coonsey is a long time right-wing troll. One of the best. I've seen him/her/it on other sites in different forms. Truly brilliant, if venal.
Get in early set yourself up as a supporter of this person or that then when the time is ripe, start with a few concern trollish questions and then increase them as time goes on. This is just the beginning for little Coonsey.
If Coonsey now tries to continue with the charade it will be open season on him. He must come out NOW with proof that he is not a troll. The longer he waits the worse it'll be for HIM! Anyone who doesn't see this is in la-la land!

hmmm....blago calls obama a "motherfucker" because he wont "play ball" and your suspicious?
seems to me that there's no smoke here. there's no fire. there's no spark.
the only connection, it seems to me, is that they're from the same state.
republicans know they can't nail obama for doing anything improper because he's one of those rare politicians who actually practices what he preaches. so all they got is GBA-guilt by association. First wright, then ayers, now blagojevich.
