Wheels are coming off the ACORN story:

Seriously? Vera was fired over this, yet there is another hole shot in those GOP juvenile delinquents ACORN stories, as police confirm that Vera had contacted them over their pimp charade.

That makes two videos completely discounted, the Healy embraced murder conspiracy idiocy that had everyone laughing at anyone that tried to push it and this recent Vera story, and their ACORN videos completely discounted and their whole farcical frame up looking like Swiss cheese.

Ya think it is safe to say that all James O'Keefe and his FOX noise accomplices have accomplished is to harass a lot of ACORN employees? Wonder what kind of case these workers will have in court? Vera might have a case against ACORN for wrongful termination and certainly against O'Keefe and FOX noise for defamation of character and, likely, all kinds of other mean and nasty stuff. Never mind the trouble these GOP punks may be in for illegally taping ACORN employees in Maryland.

These two kids are starting to look like very typical poster children for the modern day GOP: Incompetent and criminal in their actions.

Any guesses on when FOX will report on the journalistic fraud their network committed?

I hope ACORN sues for every penny the two videographers have.

The MSM should be ashamed at how they were duped on this story.

user-pic

I am waiting to see if they release any more videos. Each time they do there is a potential for more embarrassment and lawsuits against them because they were so over the top in their stupidity that there can not be many ACORN workers that were taken in, and if they bit there is a good chance they called the cops.

user-pic

We're certainly not going to see the ones where these characters were (rightly) shown the door. And I'll wager the percentage would be rather unfriendly to the Fox News trolls, were the accurate numbers known.

user-pic

Yeah. But I don't see a lot of follow-up.

user-pic

Use the American justice system against the conservative liars..Get it on the docket!

"The MSM should be ashamed at how they were duped on this story."

Even the wingnuts should be ashamed how they were duped by the MSM on this story.

user-pic

They won't be. As pointed out down thread: They have their talking point embedded in the media now.

user-pic

Rec'd and Followed. Check this out: If the progressive Dems can somehow sneak Boner's bill through...
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/9/22/785247/-They-Want-To-Punish-ACORN-Two-Can-Play-This-Game

I'm just happy that a few Dems are standing up for principal, unlike our President.

user-pic

That is a thing of beauty.

user-pic

I saw that and LMAO. I can see the campaign commercials already. "Oh noes... Boehner wants to cut off money to almost every defense contractor in the USA! Why does the Boehner hate America?"

user-pic

Sweet!

user-pic

I'm waiting for the Orly Taitz-led lawsuit complete with the forged testimonies of 'johns' and a death certificate for the vampire husband that 'still walks the earth.'

user-pic

The right wing is a circular firing squad firing blanks and still managing to off themselves.

The only way I can see the Dems hurting themselves in the long run? If they fail to pass a really strong health reform package - including an honest public option, of course.

user-pic

Today's GOP is just too damn funny. Comedians are going to have to take a pay cut soon - the jokes have started writing themselves.

user-pic

Still, and even though they are out of power and on the sidelines, the few GOP politicians remaining manage to give plenty of material to mock daily. And their supporters give us so much stuff to pick from it can be a daunting task just deciding what is the craziest thing one of them has said or done at any given moment.

user-pic

The first question is whether they faked their outfits in all the videos. Then, what else did they fake?

user-pic

We shall see. I doubt it is really faking. Just sheer incompetence resulting from amateur efforts. They and FOX wanted to pounce with stuff that they just didn't verify.

user-pic

I am a couple days late on this story and just catching up to it. So I still need to read all the articles...but just because one of the employees did contact the police a few days after the incident, how does that make up for the inexcusable advice that we saw these Acorn employees give on tape?

user-pic

Not a day goes by where we don't have yet another outrageous instance of blatant dishonesty of our elected officials hitting the news.

And almost without exception this dishonesty in some way is harmful to individual citizens or the nation in general. Our congresspersons have completely abandoned any principles, any moral high ground or ethics they may claim.

No relationship can survive in this environment. These peole are destroying our country one lie at a time. Of that I am certain.

user-pic

"These peole are destroying our country one lie at a time. Of that I am certain."

In this case it is not really a lie. Just incompetence in a lack of fact checking and possible criminality in their methods.

You would think they would have had the common sense to check the police for reports of their own stupidity BEFORE they released the videos?

user-pic

I don't really think this is incompetence. The frequency of these occurrences leads me to believe it is intentional. The goal is to sew doubt among citizens and the electorate by discrediting democrats and progressives in any way possible. They are simply fighting facts with lies because the facts weigh so heavily against them. When you have no arguable case to dispute the truth - lie.

user-pic

In the case of FOX spreading it... You are probably correct.

user-pic

thepeoplechoose makes a solid point. These characters achieved exactly what they needed to do. Namely, they killed the story about the Coal industry lobby's forged letters to legislators and turned the full power of congressional oversight against ACORN.

user-pic

All we can do is push back and HOPE that the traditional media has the spine to cover it.

user-pic

I think most voters would agree with your observations. But there is a disconnect, because most voters generally have a favorable opinion of their own Senator and Congressman.

The system of "checks and balances" envisioned by the Founding Fathers has become totally dysfunctional. All three branches of government have joined hands in some sort of pole dance with the corporatocracy stuffing money in their g-strings.

Politicians, regardless of party, will not police themselves. Apparently any level of moral or ethical depravity, short of going postal, can be tolerated and overlooked. And even when their shit is dumped in the street for all to see, they don't have the decency to resign. Hell, why should they? Next week somebody else will step on their dick and they'll forget about me.

SEC. 2. PROHIBITIONS ON FEDERAL FUNDS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES WITH RESPECT TO CERTAIN INDICTED ORGANIZATIONS.

(a) Prohibitions- With respect to any covered organization, the following prohibitions apply:

(1) No Federal contract, grant, cooperative agreement, or any other form of agreement (including a memorandum of understanding) may be awarded to or entered into with the organization.

(2) No Federal funds in any other form may be provided to the organization.

(3) No Federal employee or contractor may promote in any way (including recommending to a person or referring to a person for any purpose) the organization.

(b) Covered Organization- In this section, the term `covered organization' means any of the following:

(1) Any organization that has been indicted for a violation under any Federal or State law governing the financing of a campaign for election for public office or any law governing the administration of an election for public office, including a law relating to voter registration.

(2) Any organization that had its State corporate charter terminated due to its failure to comply with Federal or State lobbying disclosure requirements.

(3) Any organization that has filed a fraudulent form with any Federal or State regulatory agency.

(4) Any organization that--

(A) employs any applicable individual, in a permanent or temporary capacity;

(B) has under contract or retains any applicable individual; or

(C) has any applicable individual acting on the organization's behalf or with the express or apparent authority of the organization....

(3) The term `applicable individual' means an individual who has been indicted for a violation under Federal or State law relating to an election for Federal or State office.

Not that many comments or I would not take up room.

Look, there would have been no, I REPEAT NO, defense contractors left to pay money to.

I kind of like this law.

What is wrong with it. And who at ACORN is under indictment.

Maybe I am missing something BUT I LIKE THIS BILL.

user-pic

I am thinking that I like it too. Did you notice number 18 on the list of the top 100 organizations involved in fraud.

18. The government.

Maybe not such a good bill after all? Think that is the real poison pill in the bill?

user-pic

18 has got to be wrong. Government has absolutely earned the number one spot. Whoever made the survey got paid by somebody.

user-pic

It's pretty difficult to make the case that the government defrauds the government. Only people within the government can commit fraud for their own ends. I believe we should go after those people, vigorously. It is the only way that we can rid the bureaucracy of the parasites entrenched inside who were never elected. Now, I am not suggesting that we create a bureaucracy of only elected officials, because that would immobilize the gov't, but using this technique to purge the ranks of the pests would help to develop a gov't that works better.

user-pic

"It's pretty difficult to make the case that the government defrauds the government..."

I've long held that the term "the government" is much too encompassing, it is not one entity, but a mess of conflicting, competing and confusing interests that oft times interacts precipitously and violently completely beneath the public radar.

Some of our biggest secret wars have been intra-governmental, not inter-governmental.

We need more real watchdogs for public interest and fewer worthless administrators who need to be watched. That old "deregulation" meme has really come back to bite the WHOLE government, all excpet for the former members who managed to move to Dubai and other tax-free havens..

user-pic

For all the hype, Ken Shepherd points out that the right isn't the only side willing to lie to support its ideology.

Apparently the Washington Post has been caught rewording James O'Keefe in his interview in order to fit their template.

It is odd to see the right wing WaPo put words in the mouth of a right wing conservative delinquent and then have to retract them.

"Just a college republican dirty trick?"

What can I say?

"I heard that too" - Karl Rove while committing treason...
