Stating the Obvious

I suppose it goes without saying that Glenn Beck is a radical anti-democratic white supremacist but Huffington Post went ahead and laid out the facts so that label cannot be debated.  It's not that this is innaporpriate behavior for someone who is older than 5, but that it is a pattern that proves Beck is currently active in advocating for white supremacy and the violent overthrow of the most successful experiment in Democracy and self-governance in Earth's history.  In a ever so slightly less free nation, the Glenn Becks amongst us would not have a platform or the ability to whisper in a ear.  In a free country, Glenn Beck is a multi-millionaire who controls the weak and pathetic portions of society.  This would all be funny if it weren't a direct threat against every person in this nation and beyond.  At what point does the public say enough?  And what does that look like in the case of Glenn Beck?

Read Huffington Post's list of supremacists and secessionists who have been welcomed on Beck's shows and praised for their commitment to spreading hate and violence against the nation.

Prediction in NY-23

Former Republican candidate for congress Dede Scozzafava hasofficially backed Democratic candidate Bill Owens over Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman giving Owens a criticle boost in support less than 48 hours before the Nov. 3rd election.  It is my prediction that this perfect storm wreaked by the likes of Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck has created an atmosphere where the Democrats will pick up an unlikely seat in a district that has historically voted republican.  A lot of strategists do not believe an Owens win to be likely but I believe they are drastically overlooking the risk of Hoffman's Karl Rove-esque 50%+1 strategy of being very extreme and controversial in his stance in an effort to force a slim victory by super-energizing a small portion of the electorate to turn out in record numbers.  The Democrats have the backing of the White House and the voter turnout infrastructure that has proven extremely effective in recent races.  Tuesday should be quite exciting.

Catch up on what has been happening in the NY-23 electionhere and here.

The black helicopters have came for Lou Dobbs

In a story you have to read to believe, Lou Dobbs has apparently developed his own conspiracy theory concerning an apparent hunters bullet that hit the top of his house during hunting season in an area full of hunters according to the New Jersey State Police who responded to the incident (side note: the NJ State Police spokesman apparently chuckled at the description of events that Lou Dobbs gave concerning the incident).  It seems Lou has been getting threatening phone calls, which he chose never to report to any law enforcement agency, concerning his stance on immigration issues.  While discussing the "shooting" on his radio program Dobbs brought up criticism from immigrant advocacy groups in an apparent round about attempt at pointing the finger at such groups for the incident.

If someone ever shoots at me, I hope their aim is so poor they hit the top of my house, which I imagine is much lower to the ground than the mansion Lou Dobbs has bought with money peddling racial hatred.  What a bizarre, sad world some people live in.

New York's 23rd Keeps on Giving

Earlier I touched on the apparent attempt of the who's who of the conservative talking heads to throw the special election for New York's 23rd District Congressional seat to Democrat Bill Owens. Now enter the revelation that former Senator and TV drama b-list star Fred Thompson has recorded an ad for Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman more or less claiming only Hoffman can save the United States from imminent destruction.  The ad can be found here if you want to see what a call to conservative purists looks like.

Unfortunately it has not been all TV stars and Sarah Palin endorsements for Hoffman.  Recently he found out the hard way that part of representing the 650,000 residents of New York's 23rd Congressional District involves knowing, understanding, and having positions on matters that affect the 650,000 residents of New York's 23rd Congressional District.  In a recent interview with the local Watertown Daily Times Hoffman struggled to keep up with questions by the editorial board concerning the most basic and well-known local issues. According to the editorial board conducting the interview Hoffman "showed no grasp of the bread-and-butter issues pertinent to district residents."  That might prove to be a problem come election day.

On an ironic side note, Secretary of the Army John McHugh, a Republican whose appointment to that post by President Obama opened up the seat in New York's 23rd Congressional District, said in an interview with the Army Times that the Army can handle repealing "don't ask don't tell."  Are conservatives the only ones who cannot see the signs of the times?  For progressives, watching the self-imposed wounds the Republican Party is inflicting on itself is just too bizarre and interesting to ignore.  I'll keep you updated on how this fiasco plays out.

Today's Lesson in Common Sense

A hotel owner in New Mexico has instructed his Hispanic employees to not speak Spanish when he is around and to change their names to sound more American. For instance, employee Martin Gutierrez (pronounced Mahr-TEEN) would need to go by the Anglicized version of the the spelling (Mar-tin). Employee Marcos would need to go by Mark. No word on whether Anglo-Saxon hotel owners in the area would need to go by the Spanish version of their name, which would mean hotel owner Larry Whitten would be required to go by pendejo. The Associated Press has the details here.

What Modern Racism Looks Like

o make the case for rampant racism on the political right, as we've seen before, enter Pat Buchanan. Writing for the always irrational World Net Daily, Buchanan puts into detail his views why white America is upset. His first mistake, and only mistake necessary to prove his lack of common sense, is that all white Americans relate to the same desires or principals when judging the path of the nation, or what college football team to follow, or boxers or briefs for that matter. Looking beyond that simple fact (although extremely difficult to do) one can easily see through Buchanan's loosely veiled racism. To sum it up, right after saying that Barack and Michelle Obama only achieved in life what they have was directly due to affirmative action, Buchanan writes in reference to white America; "America was once their country. They sense they are losing it. And they are right." What a goofy old codger this guy is. The entire piece can be found here, though I hesitate to link to something that will surely make the reader slightly less intelligent. Proceed with caution.
