Katrina Vanden Heuvel ROCKS
Katrina Vanden Heuvel, ably aided by Stan Greenberg, made mincemeat of Karl Rove at George Stephanopoulos' roundtable this morning!
It was a beautiful thing to see Rove backed into a corner, unable to to effectively deploy his virulent bullshit. The Dems effectively demolished him and George Will sat back looking rather sourly at him..
Vanden Heuvel was at the top of her game--flawlessly prepped, tightly organized, careful and logical but not too slow. She manged to fit devastating critiques of repub policy and hypocrisy into every response.
At one point, Rove suggested that she hadn't read De Mint and other radical repub's web site statement on the stimulus bill. Big mistake--not only had she read them but she also had plenty of ammmo to demolish them!
Rove, probably accustomed to mindless adulation at CPAC, was forced into the midst of a rational discourse--he did not look happy!

If looks could kill, Karl Rove would have a toe-tag on right now. The way Katrina stared him down was second only to her masterful words! Brava. Katrina!
Stan did a great job too. Had a few one-liners that took the air out of Karl AND George.

Here are the YouTube links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=excj5nA_LQA (part 1), and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6mlw9e67Cs (part 2). Katrina - 2, Karl - BIG ZERO. The tool.

thanks, MzT! After looking at the youtube links, I see I got the Rove challenge wrong--he accused her of not reading Cantor's or Ryan's websites.

Rove, being forced into the midst of rational discourse, did not look happy.
That's terrific.

Pity Katrina couldn't challenge what Rove was saying. In typical fashion she skirts the issues preferring to discredit those who dare ask questions. Anti-intellectualism at its best.

Huh? That's what Rove was doing, or weren't you paying attention?

I think you might want to back away from the Kool Aid--she substantively swatted away Rove's typically vacuous argument. Umm, idiot, 9/11 happened on your watch. Explosion of the deficit after budget surplus? Your guy. Just because you're a revisionist shill doesn't mean you won't get called out on it.

But nntrader, Rove claims the Bush administration was innocently handed a recession from Clinton, 9/11, 2 wars, and Katrina.
He does this to justify having plunged the U.S. into trillions of debt.
So to start, it's just not true.
But more importantly, what policies did the Bush administration put into place during these "inherited" disasters?
The Republican mantra: don't tax and spend--- on 20th century ideology--big oil, drill baby drill, superpower overreach.
The Democratic mantra: tax and invest-- for this century.

"unable to to effectively deploy his virulent bullshit"
Brilliant. Line of the day. :)
Katrina Vanden Heuvel ruled the exchange with her damning "starving the beast" line of attack. The GOP bankrupted gov't on purpose. This was a classic "Bust Out."

Hey, what's the over/under on the number of days before Eric Cantor has to crawl back to Rush Limbaugh's show to beg forgiveness for his repudiation of Limbaugh this morning on ABC's This Week?

I have at times seen Katrina Vanden Heuvel left wanting. Not being able to take on the BIG GUYS. I always or almost always agreed with her politically. Love her writing. But she was lacking.
Not today. Just like you put it. Rove, I watched his fat face and his eyes. And it was a double team and her partner was fabulous.
But it was her day. No doubt about it!!!!

Hi Dick "left wanting" -- that's an understatement. She's a big time "feeler", not a "thinker". You might not find our Senator Amy Klobuchar to be in the progressive camp, but she would make minced meat out of Katerina. The wingnut right needs to be slam-dunked every day. Katerina is a "whiner", don a "dunker".
An in terms of foreign policy, she is a One Note Johny: "Withdrawal, Withdrawal, Withdrawal".
As Ellison grows in this role as a congressman, I will wager that he will move further and further away from Miss Mush.
PS In terms of anything regarding public policy, Rove is an idiot. Why he was invited to the program demonstrates the failings of our so called Fourth Estate.

Oh Stephen, I love my Amy. She can stand up to anyone. I just feel the poster has a point.
Yesterday Katerina had a time to shine and she was the perfect one to put down turd blossom.
I am so disgusted with the media allowing felons de facto if not de legis like Rove and Delay to give 'their side'. But if someone is there is to respond who has some hold on the issues, all the better. Keep warm. It is 22 below here at 8 am.

Hi Dick
We should link up sometime. I may start a blog Political Sodbusters blog for discussions on cultivating growing a grassroots DFL at the local precinct level. We have city caucuses tomorrow and I will be out and about today distributing the "call". Talk later.

Karl Rove and rational discourse - these are mutually exclusive, I'm afraid :)

I wonder if he understands yet how trashed he and his fellow-travelers are? This year's CPAC was really a kind of zombie ball!

and how did Bushcorp "inherit" 9/11 when they disregarded the (actual, not Cheny's) intelligence leading up to it?
9/11 was a bush FAILURE, not something he "inherited" like the presidency.
