The current discouse on TPM
I have read a number of posts pertaining to the quality of the
posts, comments and blogs on TPM not being of the calibre
many would like them to be.
Granted that some tend to be rather childish and not as well
researched and backed up by data as they might.
However I feel I need to remind some folks that one of the biggest
problems that those of us on the left have is the tendency toward
intellectual snobbery, snottiness, condescension and arrogance.
Which is a major turn off to most in this country.
Remember that: One - George W. Bush was not elected in spite
of his lack of intelligence or command of the English language -
but because of it.
And Two - the average IQ in this country is 90 NOT 190.
So unless you want TPM to become just another place for academic,
intellectual policy wonks - the discussions that take place here should
encompass any style that writer chooses. And the Cafe any subject
that comes up.

If it ever becomes strictly that kind of place, C, I'm outta here! I love all of the different voices here. It's like being in a great book store. Shelf after shelf of material and, depending on my mood, I get to pick and choose.
I wouldn't want it any other way. There are plenty of posts I bypass, not because they're not excellent, but because I can tell by the title that they hold no interest for me. But, as in any place where reading is allowed, I'll find plenty to read and read and read. . .

YES. hahahah YES
And when w would say nucular, his polls went up.
That is when I get depressed the most I think, I mean how can you fix what ails society with the backing of idiots?
Yeah, let us all write what we like to write about.
Then you can come and comment and tell me I am a horse's arse.
Now am I just patting C on the back. Yeah.
Come and get me. hahahaha

Absolutely Agree!
Good point and as I keep saying, no one is forced to visit, stay, post or read. If someone isn't satisfied or TPM doesn't fulfill their 'needs' then they probably should find the site that does instead of attempting to modify this one to their specific design.

As for me, my confirmed opinion is that the only two groups worth speaking to in this society are those with IQ's between 88-97 and those between 156-161.
The rest are knaves, fools and ne'erdowells.

Fuck, man. I'm, like, 135. Are you saying I don't count? But ... but ... I want mine! Where's the love, man?

You got two ways in, Rip -
1. Smarten Up.
2. Dumb It Down.
Now, I know 156 is a lot closer to 135 than 97 is. But take it from me - it's easier sliding downhill. Gravity baby, gravity.

See Ripper, q is all proud that he reached 159.
See but he cheated anyway. Had the answers written in code on his underwear. Kept takin loo breaks in the one room school house he learned his learnin in.
Then he found out the kid with the funny ears got 170 and never wore underwear. See

I do think that the folks who suggested bloggers only post one piece a day have a good point, though.

Yes, I agree. I know I posted two in one day once, but I thought better of it. Leave room for other opinions, POVs.

Sometimes if one is about to time out, and you won't be able to post once it's gone, I can see the need for two. Or if a blog is time-sensitive; that can happen, and a second might be indicated.
There apparently isn't infinite space for blogs, if I understand it correctly.

Good post, but not too brilliant. Leaving the "r" out of discourse shows the common touch, and makes up for using "calibre" instead of "caliber" - normally a dead giveaway of wonkery.

Oh, Quiii-iin; what about those of us who can't even remember what our IQs used to be, and are too nervous to even FINISH the online tests in order to get our uh...uh...score?

Well there was a time when an Atrios comment thread was a place to have an actual policy discussion. That ended some years ago with the wit who invented 'Frist!!!' and Open Threads that draw hundreds of comments within what seems like seconds. Duncan was, with Josh, one of the leaders of the 'There is no Crisis' in Social Security movement in 2005, but when was the last time you saw a real economic policy discussion at Eschaton?
And the same goes for dKos. Despite innovation after innovation in the form of Scoop registry, diaries, Hidden Comments, Trusted Users, rescued diaries all in an attempt to allow quality content to come to the fore the noise always rises to swamp the signal. The front page of dKos has become a combination of topical (Science Friday's) and meta (Diary Rangers) as to not even resemble what it was in 2002 when Kos was actually a blogger and not the master of a vast empire.
As I noted in another TPM meta diary the fundamental problem was summed up by perhaps the most consummate genius of our time, by whom of course I mean Yogi Berra. When asked why no one ever seemed to talk about a previously hot restaurant he explained:
"Nobody goes there anymore. It is too crowded."
Nobody has been able to solve this problem through history, one minute you have an artists' colony and a blink later you have an overrun tourist town. I mean even Knott's Berry Farm used to be a U-Pickem working farm where you could also buy some jam. And Fisherman's Wharf in SF was just that: a working port with a couple of good sea-food restaurants.
The only solution is to become the equivalent of a gated community, which in short order breeds insularity. Okay if you are running a secret society or a country club, not so good if your goal is to foster open and far-reaching debate.

Nicely explained. Actually thats understatement. I think you nailed the situation. Thanks for that.
No gated community wanted. But if this is evolutionary, someone is going to invent neo-frist, here at tpm, and we'll all move on again. Then the remnant can say, as Atrios does at least once a week, this blog sucks or something to the equivalent. Fighting to stop that from happen doesn't seem to have much effect, but then Canute couldn't sweep back the tide with a broom, either. I think too often of the people I loved to meet here, and I wonder where they've gone. But (Shrug), whatcha gonna do.

One does have to wonder, in the process of evolution, are we still a bucolic U-Pick family farm or have we already become the tourist harvesting berry farm?

You're totally right, C, and you could have put it more strongly. We all belong here and snobbery is freaking nowhere to put it very mildly.
