I can pretty much guarantee that the Constitution candidate has NO progressive credentials to woo Democrats! But he isn't on the ballot in NH anyway. The minor parties on the ballot there are Ralph Nader, the Libertarian and a dissident Libertarian. Nader polled less than 1% there last time when the Libertarian wasn't on the ballot so the minor party effect if any is likely to swing votes away from McCain rather than from Obama.

Good points - from a British perspective I'd just like to remind all of you that the whole world is watching America as it votes. Its not just an election about the USA though of course that should be your first priority.

You have the chance to make history and you have the chance to restore your country to a position it hasn't held for 50 years - as the beacon of hope for people across the world and as a good friend and ally of democracies across the world. Yo can do that and you won't need a Marshall Plan - in fact it will help your country in the process by stabilizing world energy issues and curtailing the terrorist threat to all our countries.

I'm impressed by Obama's common sense and instincts. I'm impressed by Joe Biden's comments and approach notably on foreign policy.

There are difficult times ahead. This is a ticket that can re-energize your country and make the world a safer and more just place. I've seen a lot of elections come and go. You folks have a chance that doesn't come along too often - don't let it slip away.

ChicagoJoe

I'm from over the pond so I know far less about McCain than you folks do. However, for me he has cut a tragic figure during this election. He had a reputation for being a personable independent fellow and he sold out to an alleged Republican base which is execrable in its faux-Christianity and its blatant racism.

It would take a miracle/demonic intervention for him to win but let's face it he could easily have done so. The economy didn't help him but bad economic times often turn people to the right as it is seen as 'the safe pair of hands'. In a very short period of time McCain managed to both appear like a headless chicken on the biggest election issue (economics) and appoint a VP candidate who is already the laughing stock of the entire world.

I'm afraid he'll be remembered for this campaign. The left and centre will regard it with contempt while the right will see him as a loser.

Of course I'm assuming the American people 'do the right thing' in all of the above - it amazes me that even 40% of Americans would think that putting Palin that close to the Presidency is a good thing. Frankly our local far-right party - the BNP - regularly expels people like her for giving them a bad name!
