Oh fer cryin' out loud!

I was checking my local news here in sunny Wisconsin and came across this tidbit.  Luckily this idiot doesn't represent me.  I didn't figure it'd be long before some moron (no offence to morons) decided our DoC officials are pussies and can't be trusted to handle the likes of those rapscallions from Gitmo.  Lets not go any farther than Jeffrey Dahmer for an example of the types of folks already incarcerated around here.  OK bad example, his cell mate strangled him.  You know what I mean though, right?  Maybe this dipstick thought if his idea caught on Obama wouldn't be able to close Gitmo 'cause there wouldn't be anywhere to put the bad guys.  What do you expect from an Assemblyman who consorts with felons.

Cat avatars always get a recommend!

It's a cabal :-)

user-pic

Is this the famous (infamous?) cat? Gorgeous!

And, hell, I hear ya, Luddie....I'm tired of this NIMBY crap!

Good expose here, btw.

Hey Kitty, let's just put stars on their jackets and eventually send them to a permanent internment camp in Arizona. Jeeeeez

Local News is important, no impotent. Very good post.

Considering the abuse, drugs, rape and murder that seems to be a daily part of life in domestic US prisons, one wonders if the detainees would prefer to stay in the hands of the military.

Sending them back to their home countries doesn't seem to be a very good solution, either, considering what just happened to al-Libi when he was sent home to Libya.

user-pic

So what are you going to do about it?

user-pic

I sent an email to his office noting my displeasure. The proverbial Sternly Worded Letter(tm).

Hey, I wonder if I can get a job in Reid's office?

user-pic

LOL, thanks.

I'm thinking something along the lines of "I'm very unhappy that you're trying to stop terrorists from coming to my state".

:-)

user-pic

I like that one. Should do Mel Martinez right in.

user-pic

hmmmmmmmm...maybe we ought to give them their choice between staying at Gitmo or going to a regular prison...hadn't considered that regular prison isn't exactly a walk in the park.

user-pic

I'd take a Caribbean Island over Wisconsin any day, if I had to be incarcerated.

user-pic

He said guards shouldn't be forced to interact with suspected terrorists.

Well, they certainly aren't going to interact with the Whitneys and Vanderbilts under normal circumstances, either. They might as well interact with suspected terrorists. Does this guy think he is the Emily Post of guard etiquette?

Actually, I think the Republicans in all states are catching on to this one. For the goddesses sake, Florida put up with Ted Bundy for years, till they overstimulated him one day.

user-pic

So just how do most of these detainees relate on the Manson/Dahmer/Bundy scale? Out of the 100s at Gitmo, they've managed to convict what, three of them? And wasn't one of those guy basicallly bin Laden's private driver?

user-pic

Wot I'm sayin', astral! Exactly. Would you rather be in a state with Hamdam, bin Laden's driver, or Jeffrey Dahmer, especially if he's hungry? (I know he's dead, but it's about the POINT!)

Maybe they're worried because the prisons have been filling up recently with Republicans? In Palm Beach County, we're on our 5th County Commissioner heading for the big house, just in the last 2-3 years. We have contests judging the best resignation letters.

Hmmm, maybe it's not the guards interaction that this clown is worried about. It's more of a prisoner to prisoner 'interaction' that keeps him awake at night?

I am preparing to introduce a bill that would prohibit the state of Oregon from allowing anyone to enter our state who ordered the torture of an inmate, prisoner or detainee at Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib, Bagram, CIA black sites or elsewhere.

user-pic

Now that is a great idea! Russ Feingold is having a listening tour in my area Thursday. I'm going to purpose that he introduce just such a measure!

user-pic

Now how is Cheney supposed to manipulate energy prices in the Pac NW if you keep him out of Oregon?

user-pic

What a great idea! I commend you for it! Or anyone who designed, authorized, or even agreed it was good idea!

user-pic

If all states ban them, they can use Gitmo as a holding area...

user-pic

I'll second that. Or third, whatever's needed. Maybe Pennsylvania needs a similar ballot measure.

Ironic/Funny/Sad Anecdote Alert:

So, I get a letter from my dad yesterday. He's an inmate for life at the Oregon State Pen. Now, ever since 9/11, he has gone full wingnut. He can not refer to muslims without calling them Islamofascists, and apparently inmates are allowed to listen to right wing radio. He just LOVES Sean Hannity.

Anyway...

He writes and tells me that he is aghast that Barack HUSSEIN Obama would consider sending terrorists to federal prisons or military brigs. He says that just about every inmate would consider it his sworn duty to eradicate them and it would inflame prison race wars based on the conversion efforts of the Nation of Islam.

But he finishes the letter hoping that a terrorist comes to his prison so that they would face justice. Woo hoo! That's my Dad!

I have to admit, though, that my father brings up an interesting point. How safe would the Gitmo detainees be in the federal pen?

user-pic

My guess is that GITMO 'detainees' would not be housed with the general prison population. They would also be housed in Federal facilities, for whatever that's worth.

user-pic

Same class as Terry Nichols. Solitary Secure Housing Unit. No problem.

user-pic

Prisons have a way of getting to inmates that the population wants gotten to. I am only pointing out that this needs to brought into the discussion. Inmates have NIMBY too.

user-pic

Thanks to everyone for recommending :-) My cat loves seeing his mug on the front page...
