BOYCOTT MURDOCH MEDIA

As the great Tom Lehrer said, "I know that there are people in the world that do not love their fellow human beings, and I hate people like that!"

I remember reflecting that the gestalt of the country was becoming more accepting of racism during the Reagan administration. I was lambasted on bulletin boards for making such a statement, and told that *I* was the racist...

I read in Joshua's blog entry quoting "MA":

I'm done with Murdoch, and his channels, newspapers, movies, etc., and I hope many others feel that way as well. Enough is enough.

I agree completely. Enough is enough with Mr. Murdoch and his minions fomenting racism for profit. Let's list out the activities we should encourage all reasonable persons to take in order to send a hard message to Mr. Murdoch, his family, and his mouthpieces.

To get things started, I suggest that any of us with digital television tuners that permit restriction of channels use the feature to remove all FOX networks from our channel listings. No more Faux News, No More American Idol, No More 24. None of it. All of it lines the pockets of Mr. Murdoch.

Follow up with a letter/email/fax/call to NewsCorp informing them of your decision.

Examine the map of NewsCorps holdings and learn what other offerings you will need to boycott. No more MySpace, no WSJ, No Barron's.

How can we tell this man that we are as mad as hell and we're not going to take it any more?

Sarah Palin Comes Out Against Capital Punishment!

From the Hugh Hewitt radio program, at 7:17 to 7:32.

"To me, that is the extreme position. Not, not my position of just, um, wanting that culture of life to be respected and not wanting government to sanction the idea of, um, of ending life."

The follow-up question was not asked:

"If you do not support government sanctioned ending of life, what is your position on capital punishment?"

Steve Goodie Sings - "I'm thinking of Nailin' Sarah Palin!"

Received by Email...

Hi!  Steve Goodie here.  I'm writing to you because you have, either recently or long ago, purchased one or more of my songs.  I don't have anything to sell you today -- I have something to give you for FREE.

It's rated PG-13, so if you have purchased kids' songs from me, please be advised that this is NOT intended for kids. It's for grownups with an interest in politics, our country, and our future.  It's not gonna make everyone happy, but it is meant to be funny and relevant. Please click here to see and hear my new Sarah Palin song video:

Please let me know your reactions, and feel free to forward this to absolutely everyone. And if you have Bill Maher's or Jon Stewart's e-mail address, I'd be grateful if you'd pass them along to me!

Thanks!

Steve

Republican Platform Deconstructed - No Rights for Women, Children

In the first of what I hope to be a continuing series, I bring you this brief decomposition of the Republican Party Platform. Please find a potential voter who might consider reasonable debate regarding their impending vote, and ask them to consider the facts of the Republican platform, and what it means to support that platform with their vote. Ask them to read the offending UN Conventions, and determine whether they truly want to support a party that opposes the concepts expressed therein...

From the Republican Platform for 2008:

We reject ... the UN convention on women’s rights, ... and the UN convention on the rights of the child.

Presidential Pardons & Historical Warnings

"The President of the United States has the unrestrained power of granting pardons for treason, which may be sometimes exercised to screen from punishment those whom he had secretly instigated to commit the crime, and thereby prevent a discovery of his own guilt."

- George Mason, from his "Objections to This Constitution of Government"

Mr. Mason certainly hit the nail on the head with this one, eh?
