Fox won't broadcast Obama's speech. Let's compile a list of advertisers to boycott.

It's pretty outrageous how Rupert Murdoch dutifully broadcasted President Bush's prime-time speeches on FOX, but decides to break with the other networks and broadcast "So You Think You Can Dance?"  during Obama's speech.  Really the only way for ordinary Americans to affect Murdoch is to vote with our wallets and refuse to support those who advertise during the program.

If I get a chance, I'll find out who advertised during the speech and post later.

There's another way, too. Call your local Fox affiliate on Monday and complain directly to the station manager.

I have already phoned Fox affiliate KTVI and spoken to a news producer. In addition, I follwed up with this email:

With Rupert Murdoch's decision to air "Dancing with the Stars" instead of the President's Address to a Joint Session of Congress, it is no longer possible to excuse KTVI's complicity as a Fox affiliate in placing politics above news judgment and the public interest.

I am stunned and disgusted that Fox and KTVI intend to air the dance moves of disgraced former Republican congressman Tom Delay rather than a historic address vital to every American's understanding of our health care system's future. Assigning a conservative litmus test to even the most profound news events of our nation's momentous health care debate is an outrageous violation of your network's contract with American society. The privilege enjoyed by Fox and its affiliates to use the public air waves was never granted for such arbitrary and capricious political ends.

If Rupert Murdoch goes through with this latest of Fox's blatant abuses of its public licensure, I will do everything in my power to encourage a boycott of Fox and its national advertisers, as well as your station and its local advertisers. In addition, I will ask my congressional delegation to begin a formal inquiry into the political ties of Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes, whose founding and operation of Fox as an illegal arm of the Republican party violates federal campaign finance regulations and FCC rules. I wonder what kind of tangled web of politics and money will be revealed when Fox itself becomes the story with legs.

Now that's a letter with teeth. Fangs even. Thanks for the inspiration, Ripper.

Good stuff, both of you... I'm going to forward this to more active Liberals who will appreciate it, if you don't mind. Certainly will give credit where credit is due!

Thanks!
