I'd Love To See Obama Drop Down to 30%

job approval on this headline (if I get a call from a pollster, I definitely will take him down):

White House appears ready to drop 'public option'

By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Bowing to Republican pressure, President Barack Obama's administration signaled on Sunday it is ready to abandon the idea of giving Americans the option of government-run insurance as part of a new health care system.

Facing mounting opposition to the overhaul, administration officials left open the chance for a compromise with Republicans that would include health insurance cooperatives instead of a government-run plan. Such a concession probably would enrage Obama's liberal supporters but could deliver a much-needed victory on a top domestic priority opposed by GOP lawmakers.

Officials from both political parties reached across the aisle in an effort to find compromises on proposals they left behind when they returned to their districts for an August recess. Obama had sought the government to run a health insurance organization to help cover the nation's almost 50 million uninsured, but he never made it a deal breaker in a broad set of ideas that has Republicans unified in opposition.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that government alternative to private health insurance is "not the essential element" of the administration's health care overhaul. The White House would be open to co-ops, she said, a sign that Democrats want a compromise so they can declare a victory.

I need a source other than an AP hack to give this much credence.

second that, Aunt Sam. The Associated Press is not associated with truth.

What should really be happening is that the White House should be prepared to drop the private option, and get 100% behind the public option.

So many reasons why the public option, or even single payer should be central to this whole discussion-the economic benefits, the fairness and accessibility to Americans, the proven success of Medicare, the proven success of a public system in every other industrialized country.

It's infuriating when the entire debate is framed incorrectly from the start. It's not even the political reality.

Imagine if the democrats that helped usher in things like civil rights, social security, and Medicare were as weak-kneed and fearful and tied to the wallets of their corporate campaign contributors as many of the democrats are today.

How about a NYT article instead?

Kent Conrad, D-ND, said the same thing this morning on Fox.

Thanks for another update from Fox News, Lalo.

Do you know if Fox News is still running the story you told us about yesterday, that Obama hating white supremacists posting on Facebook are really just Black impersonators?

Kent Conrad?

Well, he's the fricking ding-dong that came up with the co-op idea in the first place.

But I wouldn't expect the ol' Black Cat in the Hat to know that. The Cat is just too busy fear-mongering over some off-the-wall administration scheme to "enslave" citizens through the public option.

Ding-bat!

Gibbs didn't confirm or deny the death of the public option on CBS.

I didn't watch it, but CNN.com is reporting that Sec. Sebelius said as much on John King's Sunday show.

Bowing to Republicans...

That says it all, doesn't it?

Bowing facing repubicans is a bad tactic. Bowing facing away from them is dangerous to one's nether regions.
