Apropros to Josh's theme that DC is still "wired" Republican: "Only Tax Cuts Create Jobs." "Fight 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em over here." "Drill, Baby, Drill". "Democrats only want to tax and spend their way out of every problem."
These memes take a long time to change, just as the memes from LBJ's Great Society took a long time to die even after Reagan was elected. So called "Welfare Reform" didn't become popular with the Washington Elite and the MSM until the late 80's. And "Affirmative Action" really didn't become a dirty phrase with the MSM until the 90s. But Reagan and his ilk slowly but surely changed the narrative.
Taking control of the national narrative is critical over the next few years if we are ever to be able to break the back of the CW out of DC and truly get the change this country needs. That at this point is at least as important for President Obama, Congressional Democrats, and the progressive blogosphere to continue to do as any legislation Democrats plan to introduce.
