In their zeal to hit the panic button over anything related to Bush and Paulson actually having a positive impact on the economy and our country as a whole, many on the left are missing the point.
Forget about the Bush Administration winning any particular battle; the War has been won. Which war is that, you say? Why the war between Reaganomics (Trickle Down Tax Cuts and Deregulation Solves All Problems) versus Progressive Ideals (The Preamble To The Constitution).
Barack early on talked about the need for a "more perfect union" in his stump speeches. He should continue this theme. These are magic words that seem to have been given short shrift from both parties for far too long:
"in Order to form
a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity"
Sopinds like a pretty succinct description of the Progressive Agenda: universal health care guaranteed; universal college education guaranteed; Social Security strengthened and preserved; Jobs protected and retraining guaranteed: environmental protections guaranteed.
None of this will have been possible without the Bush Presidency. We don't ever get massive change in this country absent massive distress. The fact that a Republican President is turning America into a new Socialist paradise is not only hilarious, it's delightful!
If in 4 years most of the above is set in stone and becomes a part of the new American fabric, we can look back and thank our "dear leader" and the most over-reaching, incompetent, mendacious administration in US History for giving us the great leap forward to a "more perfect union".
We couldn't have done it without you, Georgie. What a legacy you will have left us.
