Time to play hardball.  The Chicago Way. "They put one of yours in the hospital, you put one of theirs in the morgue". 

The Obama campaign must pound home the following message and not let up until the election is won:

 "Whatever happened to the Old John McCain, you know the one who was a maverick and bucked his party and his President.  He's nowhere to be found.  Now we have the new and (En Roved) version who wants to make the Bush tax cuts for the rich, that the Old John McCain voted AGAINST twice, permanent.  Who wants to increase oil company tax breaks because they aren't making enough gouging American motorists and truck drivers as it is.  Who surrounds himself with lobbyists who work for free, and who expect nothing in return once he becomes President.  Who wants to ship more jobs overseas because that's the patriotic thing to do.  Who never wants to leave Iraq. Who wants to get rid of a woman's right to choose once and for all. More war; less jobs, no choice.  If you liked the two Bush recessions, you are going love the McCain Great Depression."

We don't elect (obvious) wimps President of the United States.  If you don't go on the attack people believe you are a wimp.  Americans never follow a leader who takes the high road. Time to get down and dirty.  Destroy the McCain campaign.  Impugn his integrity.  Make it so he never gets elected anything again.
It's time to follow the command of Admiral Halsey: 
"Attack. Repeat. Attack"
