Bill Moyers: Beacon
Bill Moyers has done an exceptional job lately on the unfolding economic and social catastrophe. In particular I thought his interview with Mike Davis recently was exceptional. I don't think you'd ever see Mike Davis on Rachel Madow or the Hardball guy's show.
Moyers is a beacon of hope in this confounding world.

Thanks for the link. I wasn't sure which date you meant, as I've missed the last couple of Fridays with Bill.
As I listened to those two, I couldn't help but think that the true heroes in this country are maybe the softest-spoken. Shrieking and ranting draws attention, but to what? Nearly 30 minutes of calm conversation about the possibility of a return to some semblance of goodness and mercy in America is, for the moment, a soothing balm to our pained hearts. But if enough people watch it, and begin to follow other conversations like it, that philosophy becomes the norm.
Ever since Reagan, we saw the mood in this country make a steady shift toward greed and selfishness, toward intolerance and hate. During the Bush years, it became the national conversation, and the voices of those of us who saw what it was doing to our country were drowned out.
Now it's time for a new national conversation and Bill Moyers is still doing his damnedest to let those voices be heard.
I'll spread this bit of outstanding journalism as far as I can. I hope others do, too.

The Interview/discussion between Moyers and Davis is remarkable. Well worth the time it takes to view it.

A beacon? Have you missed the recent revelations about what he did under LBJ?

people do stupid things when they're young and ignorant and listening to all the voices telling them what they ought to be doing. The real test is when, after finally realizing what you're doing, WHAT you do about it.

Where are those revelations coming from? I don't see how you could watch that video and come away thinking that Bill Moyers was anything other than a national hero.
The man has taken heaps of abuse over the years from the people who would love to silence him--but guess what? He's still here. Where are they?
