Bill Moyers: Beacon

Bill Moyers has done an exceptional job lately on the unfolding economic and social catastrophe. In particular I thought his interview with Mike Davis recently was exceptional. I don't think you'd ever see Mike Davis on Rachel Madow or the Hardball guy's show.

Moyers is a beacon of hope in this confounding world.

Virginia: What's Goin On Here???

Should we be worried about Virginia?

Roubini For TS

Barack Obama should nominate **Nouriel Roubinin to be the next Treasury Secretary. Dr. Doom is a bit creepy, but he's one of the few that seems to know what' going on. Your thoughts? Who would be better? Roosevelt appointed businessmany: **Joe Kennedy:should Obama appoint Warren Buffet? I still say: choose Dr. Doom!

Pessimism: Now, More Than Ever!

President-elect Obama is inheriting the worse financial crisis perhaps in the history of the United States. There is no way we'll be "better off four years from now than we are today." Nouriel Roubini is predicting certain deflation-led chaos that will plague the world for years on end. Better somewhat like Obama be at the helm during such a period than brutes like Bush/McCain

Now is the time to embrace pessimism as a way of life. Hard for Americans to do, but if we don't, the right-wing fascists will eventually swoop back in to power and be our guides to hell.

Thomas Hardy once wrote about the virtues of being pessimistic. In such a state, you can never be disappointed, and, sometimes events might actually exceed your expectations.

In our current state of despair, we all must assume pessimism as the new way.

The Danger of Roubini

Nouriel Roubini is now seen as the expert on the current economic state of emergency in the US and the world. His analysis is alarming, mostly right, and extremely dangerous for progressives. It's easy to drift into despair and hopelessness, and that is what Roubini has done. His analysis and predictions for the future could not be bleaker. If you truly took him at his word you might as well go hang yourself right now, because the earth is on fire and hopelessness rules.

Progressives must stand up, take charge, show leadership qualities, be warriors against cynicism and despair, and fight for a better future. Roubini thinks in terms of GDP, LIPOR, TARP, deleveraging, etc, etc. None of it adds up for him, we are doomed, and there is nothing we can do.

Beware. He's got an axe to grind.

Talking Points Queen: Palin Cleans His Clock, Wins Debate Handily!!

Not suprisingly Palin won the debate. The expectations were so low, the format so terrible, the moderator also terrible. As Palih stated at the git go of the debate, she stuck to her talking points, it'll be portrayed as a huge victory for Grampy's campaign, and the poll number will change quicker than the Dow.

We on the Left have made the treacherous mistake of thinking of her as "STUPID" rahter than "IGNORANT." This woman is definetly NOT STUPID. Yes, she is terribly ignorant and uniquely UNQUALIFIED to be v.p., but she ain't stupid. And neither are McCain's strategists.

Be prepared to work 24/7 between now and November Four if we want any hope of preventing a McCain Palin administration.

Time to Wake Up: Looming Crisis with Russia Threatens us all

Obama's selection of Joe Biden does not bode well for how our country might deal with Russia under an Obama administration. It appears Biden is  in favor of NATO's continued encircling and strangling of Russia. Can anyone explain the rationale behind this policy?  Why is the United States so aggressive towards Russia? How is this policy in our interest? And, most importantly, are we willing to wage global nuclear war to carry out our policy?
Still, inspite of Barack's and Biden's position, we are clearly better off with them at the helm than war monger McCain. At least they'll open up some political space for serious debate on this crucial matter.

The Economy: Apocalypse Now?

Is anyone really paying attention to what's happening in the economy?

Are we about to see a string of bank failures and catastrophic collapse?

Just curious.

Afghanistan: What are We Thinking?

Barack Obama, like the rest of us, apparently, sees no problem with the war in Afghanistan. In fact, he said today that it's a war "we must win."

I for one don't think we can possibly "win" in Afghanistan, just like we can't "win" in Iraq (or Iran).

Check the history books: great powers have utterly failed in Afghanistan.

When are progressives going to wake up and realize that our war in Afghanistan is every bit as flawed as our war in Iraq?

Why are progressives reluctant to challenge US policy in Afghanistan?

Vizualize "The Obama Aministration!"

No question, Barack has an enormous challenge ahead of him this summer and fall, but he's a strong candidate, and he will prevail over the weak Republican McCain.

Nonetheless progressives must be prepared to push the Obama administration on the critical issues of our time -- the economy, the climate, and the war.

Barack, when you look closely, is  truly  a"centrist" --  on health care (keep it employer-based), on war (leave Iraq, evenutally, but ready to go all out in Pakistan), and on other matters critical to our future.

Barack is great because he's inspirational, especially to young people, but not because he has any truly visionary policies.

Let's mobilize and fight like hell to make sure the neocons get swamped this fall and Barack gets elected, but then, let's be prepared to get to work.

Enough is enough, or is it?

When will the Clintons determine that they've done enough damage to the Democrats' chance of winning the White House this fall? June, July, August, never??

Maybe this is the final fiasco of the Democratic Party, the absolute Last Straw.

I, for one, (probably one of millions) will never work for a  Democratic presidential candidate again if this easy lay up is blown.

It'll be time to stop all the excuses and instead work to build a truly independent political movement and a  multiparty system once and for all.

The Audacity of (No) Hope!

Clinton has now has no hope of winning the nomination unless she exercises the "nuclear option," while Bubba is out there floating the idea (or the "demand") that Hillary be the VP.

Will she pull the nukes, or will she threaten him with the demand to be the Veep?

Ah, the audacity...

Where's Sean Wilentz?

Has anyone heard from Sean Wilentz lately? I'd like to hear his take on Hillary's recent doings. How can he continue to defend this destructionist?!

Hillary and the Nuclear Option

It is apparent that Hillary is indeed about to exercise the "nuclear option," which is suprising given that her tone had moderated quite a bit recently. That she's implying that Obama's impending victory is "illegitimate" is highly disturbing. She really does seem wanting  to  blow up the Democrat's chance this fall if she's not the nominee.
