Looking at this article indicates three things.  1.  Obama coming home this weekend.  2.  Caroline Kennedy coming to Washington for a fundraiser.  3.  This is the big one, Patti Solis Doyle (chief of staff for the VP) is reporting that her hires come to work on that day. 

This indicates an announcement is imminent, and I would not be surprised if it were this week. 

Thoughts? 

At first glance, I didn't think Senator Dodd would be vetted due to his current "scandal" surrounding his home loan.  Others have been in agreement, though believe that Senator Dodd was only being vetted as a favor for jumping on the Obama Bandwagon early.  I pulled the quote from which Senator Dodd when he was questioned by reporters whether he had been submitting papers to the Obama campaign:  "There's been some inquiries, yeah," Dodd said. "They ask for a lot of stuff. I'll leave it there."
Perplexed, I did some digging and found out that former Governor of Virginia, Mark Warner was a chief aide to Senator Dodd and my conspiracy-minded mind thought perhaps Dodd was submitting Warner's papers after Warner's "Shermanesque" statement (though he backed off somewhat in a recent Washington Post interview).  I'm thinking that the statement was made to throw the media off his scent.  He still has until 9/5/08 to withdraw from the Senatorial race and Obama's Vp will be announced as early as next week.  
His announcement as VP would send McCain's campaign in total meltdown.  I don't think they're anticipating him as the VP choice, and VA would basically turn into a lock with him on the ticket.  Further, he could help in MO, PA, MI and OH.  His message dovetails nicely with Obama's and he's a strong figurehead for the economy.  
Though (more likely), I'm probably way off the mark, I still think this as a possibility and I guess we'll see in the next week or so.
