Feet Don’t Fail Me Now!
I’ve been getting a little wound up by this campaign,
especially over the last few days. In an
effort to channel my energy toward something positive, I started working on a
mass email to encourage friends to donate to the Obama campaign. While thinking about it, I changed my
Facebook status to “thinks everyone needs to think hard about the world they
want to live in and then decide if it’s worth the cost of a pair of shoes.
DONATE NOW!”. The choice of “shoes” was almost arbitrary – I thought it was
representative of a slightly indulgent expenditure people often make (not me of
course).
A classmate from high school, JS, has a collection of shoe photos from her
friends on her Facebook page – Happy Feet. She saw my status, was inspired by the shoe
comment, and announced that she would donate $5 for every one of HER friends
that sent her a shoe photo. I volunteered to match.
Now we’ve got a Facebook group. The absurdity is a welcome relief from the campaign BS that's driving me mad. If anyone’s interested in giving $5 (or more) through our group and posting a photo of their shoes, please do. It’s ridiculous and fun and it may do a little good.
