I have a theory that Stevens pulled ahead in the last hours when it was clear Obama had won. Alaska polls ended an hour after Obama was declared the winner at 11 pm est. I think there may have been a groundswell in the last couple of hours of "divided government" votes. Especially in Wacko, AK.

I may be wrong - haven't seen anything to substantiate this. But it's one more reason why I think polls should all close at the same time. The potential influence of almost-instant results is too great.

bvd Commented on Liberal Bloggers Pressuring Dem Senators To Vote Lieberman Out by Greg Sargent

In addition to the inexcusable personal attacks Lieberman made against Obama there is another factor - Lieberman should be dumped (or at least marginalized) for the purpose of narrowing his options in running for re-election. In other words, there should be no willingness to consider helping Lieberman when a real Democrat will be running for Senator in CT in 2012. Democrats should be helping Democrats get elected.

I know Lieberman may not stand a chance of getting re-elected (MAY not). But it is not the Dems job to assume that. It's their job to move the party forward.

Greg - I really appreciate what you've written. My son is 8 and for him as well this will be the first election he remembers in his lifetime. I always maintained, even back in Summer 2007 when I decided Obama was my candidate, that the rewards of an Obama win would be so monumental that we would not even begin to comprehend them for many years.

Looking at my son the morning after the election and realizing his entire cognizent childhood and adolescence could, God willing, be lived with President Obama in office makes me so happy for him. I grew up with LBJ and Nixon, Vietnam and Martin Luther King's assassination. I pray that my son - a Hispanic in a mixed-race, multi-ethnic family - grows up seeing his country in a very different way than I did. Now it looks like he really can. The benefits of this election are immeasurable.

You have it exactly right, Tena. This from CNN:

Sources: McCain aide fired for 'trashing' staff
From CNN Correspondent Dana Bash

(CNN) — Randy Scheunemann, a senior foreign policy adviser to John McCain, was fired from the Arizona senator's campaign last week for what one aide called "trashing" the campaign staff, three senior McCain advisers tell CNN.

One of the aides tells CNN that campaign manager Rick Davis fired Scheunemann after determining that he had been in direct contact with journalists spreading "disinformation" about campaign aides, including Nicolle Wallace and other officials.

"He was positioning himself with Palin at the expense of John McCain's campaign message," said one of the aides.

Senior campaign officials blame Schuenemann specifically for stories about the way Wallace and chief campaign strategist Steve Schmidt mishandled Palin's rollout — stories that the campaign says threw them off message in the critical final weeks of the campaign.
Another aide said McCain personally was "very disappointed by Randy," who worked for McCain for many years in the Senate.

Scheunemann became close with Palin during her debate prep process.

Was she wearing a towel when they became close?
