Gail Collins: Bush Should Go Now

An excellent column, well wroth reading, from Gail Collins in today's New York Times. Here's A brief excerpt:

Thanksgiving is next week, and President Bush could make it a really special holiday by resigning.

Seriously. We have an economy that's crashing and a vacuum at the top. Bush -- who is currently on a trip to Peru to meet with Asian leaders who no longer care what he thinks -- hasn't got the clout, or possibly even the energy, to do anything useful. His most recent contribution to resolving the fiscal crisis was lecturing representatives of the world's most important economies on the glories of free-market capitalism.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As a bonus, the Pelosi presidency would put a woman in the White House this year after all. On the downside, a few right-wing talk-show hosts might succumb to apoplexy. That would, of course, be terrible, but I'm afraid we might have to take the risk in the name of a greater good.
Can I see a show of hands? How many people want George W. out and Barack in?
Here's a link to the full essay. Most people who read Collins think of her as a humorist or satirist and while there's a few chuckles along the way in this piece, her advice, in my opinion, is nothing to laugh at.
I agree--an excellent piece.
This is a disastrously bad idea. Not that Collins' heart is in the wrong place. But President Cheney can pardon citizen Bush.
Right now, Dubya is the only person in the world who Dubya can't let off the hook. And something tells me he'll try anyway, or resign at 11:55 a.m. on Inauguration Day to give Cheney enough time to sign the papers.
I know Collins' plan calls for Cheney to resign too. But let's not give Dubya a chance to be clever for the first time in 8 years!
She calls for him to resign before bush. But as we know and Gail Collins knows... it's a no go!
I missed her columns when she was editorial board editor. That was smashing the glass ceiling for sure! I'm glad shes' back writing columns though.
As soon as President Bush leaves office on Jan 20, 2009 and the new President Barack Obama comes in, then it's also time for other changes as well.
It's time to end all racism. Now that Barack Obama was elected behind a 95% black vote, blacks have now reached the highest office in the world. On Jan 20th, 2009, all black only organizations must be ended otherwise they become racist.
And I think you should sign up to join each of them. You might learn something.
Where is Mr Andrew Golis when you need him ?
Gail's heart is in the right place. I like her much more than Maureen Dowd.
Maureen Dowd is unreadable.
I think Dowd should be reassigned to cover Congress. That's where her true talents could be put to the best use. As Tom Friedman wrote last Sunday (Nov 16): "...the House of Representatives is full of knuckle banging Neanderthals."
