Kumbaya- My Keester!
I really want to know if there are any Libs or Progressives that would be willing to take up arms to protect President Obama from these right wing loons. How many of us have the guts to load that shotgun or 30/30 and defend Our President. I am not as fast as I used to be, so I will keep my twelve gauge ready.
Now, I know some of us from the OMG wing of our party are, well, doing the OMG thing right now. But I really am serious. I don't have any plans to go to a Republican event and brandish my shotgun. Really! I don't advocate violence at all. To the contrary, I don't enjoy confrontation or violence, but I am totally unwilling to give up and let the nut jobs run things just because they can bully us.
When so called men of God pray for a human being, especially President Obama, to die a horrible death over simple politics, it speaks volumes about what is hidden below the surface.
If it comes to the same tactics used as in Bosnia and now the Gypsies, I will lock and load in defense of Real Freedom, not some right wing version.

I rec'd because I totally get it and endorse the base sentiment.
But, I admit the fact I don't own a gun, want to own a gun or need to own a gun - thus, I doubt I'd be the one anyone would designate to arm with one.
That said, sign me up to defend our rights, denounce those who arm themselves only with guns and idiocy as they go forth into the abyss and to stand up and speak out about and against the lunacy, lies and loonies!

People who go to town hall meetings where a congress critter or the President are in attendance, and stand outside openly brandishing weapons, are about as subtle in their true intent as a man who goes to a singles bar with Trojans taped all over the outside of his jacket.

While in theory I see your point in practice its not a step in the right direction. There are plenty of democrats that have guns though more likely hunting rifles than AR-15's. But what have there been, maybe a dozen nut cases with guns? I don't think its time to stand armed at the barricades. I think those gun nuts harm their position and look foolish to a majority of the public.

Sadly, it will come one day. The ethnic or political cleansing that is perpetrated on the masses by a powerful minority, funded by the wealthy. When the right wingers spew misinformation and out right lies through their propaganda machines, freedom suffers. I am sure that Rhowanda, Sudan, Chile and all of the other places where right wing control of the masses, was never expected by those that were disappeared. It can happen, and we should not discount the determination of those that hate, and the people who fund and profit from the actions of the haters.

bubba, you haven't really thought this through at all, I can tell. Frustration doesn't equal thought and resolve doesn't equal helpfulness. Drop the gun and just bring a few friends next time. You're not getting anywhere close enough to the president with a shotgun in tow that you could help him more than the Secret Service. Best case scenario, showing your weapon allows the media to equate pro-health care advocates with the Tea Party gunslingers. Worst case scenario, you blow away five Democrats with your 12-gauge while aiming for the bad guy.

Thanks for your response, Rip. Actually, I have thought it through. I stated specifically that I was NOT going to events to 'brandish' my gun. And I won't stand in front of the podium posing like the Black Panthers did. My post is about taking steps to insure that anyone wanting to drag us out of our beds in the night will find resistance. Bullies lie and bluster to get their way, but when they use weapons to terrorize, I will fight fire with fire. I am an aging flower child that has given up the patched jeans and the leather headband, but not the principles. I will not seek out conflict, but will defend my principles to the bitter end. While I respect MLK, Gandhi, and Tutu, I cannot emulate them.

And no guns for me. You asked if there were any libs or progressives who would take up arms to protect the president. I don't want to live in a society where the public is required to protect the leader of the country. While I despise those people who think playing Big Guy with guns strapped to their sides is the height of patriotism, I can't see going firearm vs firearm against them.
I would say we're better than that, but I'm beginning to wonder.
You might want to look again at the three leaders you seem to think were touting so much wimpery--MLK, Gandhi and Tutu. What long-lasting victories did they accomplish compared to their gun-toting enemies? They're all heroes in my book and they did it without resorting to violence.
(The term "Flower Child" was used for proponents of non-violence--as in the picture of the hippie sticking a flower into the barrel of a gun. That's not what I'm hearing from you.)

And if we had GWB as dictator, all of the guns would be silenced. I don't believe in violence, but id the time comes, I will stand to my country's defense. I won't allow a George Bush takeover of my country without a fight. You can't let other people do your fighting. It does not have to be a gun. Use the system, like MLK. Stand your ground like Gandhi. Never stop fighting no matter where the battlefield, just like Tutu. A lot of folks are needlessly getting hung up on the image of a gun. It's not the gun, but the fight. And yes, hippies can and do defend themselves.
