This was the best speech I think I've ever seen him give (pace the obligatory Palin props and the reactions of his audience). Where was this guy all year?
What an excellent time for the real McCain to show up. With that concession speech, he has restored my faith in the amazing process that so flummoxes our detractors: Our ability to come together after a bitter struggle, for the good of all the country.
Hard to know which McCain is the one who would have run the country had he won; insert that kind of oratory and subtract one pitbull hockey mom, and we'd have a different president tonight.
Favorite Books Frank Herbert, Dune;
Hermann Hesse, Der Steppenwolf;
Immanuel Kant, Critique of Pure Reason;
Jürgen Habermas, The Theory of Communicative Action, vols. I and II;
Salman Rushdie, Midnight's Children;
Michel Foucault, Discipline and Punish.
Favorite Quotes "Nothing is easier than to denounce the evildoer; nothing is more difficult than to understand him" — Fyodor Dostoevsky; "There never was a good war or a bad peace" — Benjamin Franklin; "In a process of enlightenment there can only be participants" — Jürgen Habermas; "Only the descent into the hell of self-knowledge can pave the way for godliness" — Immanuel Kant
