McCain supporters defend Islam at rally

McCain supporters rebuke religious intolerance outside of a rally in Virginia. A group of people were handing out bumper stickers saying "Obama for Change" with a crescent-and-star in place of the "C" and a hammer-and-sickle in place of the "G." Other supporters, some of whom are themselves Muslim (including a campaign official), accused them of not standing by the principles of the Constitution and of trying to make McCain look bad.

I find it interesting that these Christian McCain supporters defending the Muslim supporters show more decency than the candidates themselves. It's the words of McCain and Palin and their scurrilous claims about Obama that are driving these bigots out of the woodwork. McCain and Palin are watching them come out and doing nothing but defending their supporters. The McCain campaign even accused Obama of "attacking their supporters" when the media started to report some of the racist actions at their rallies.

I agree. Its quite a constrast (assuming they are not Obama plants).

Thanks bmm for drawing attention to it. I am 100% an Obama supporter, but its too easy to demonize all McCain supporters and assume they all agree with the unhinged ones. Its good for America to see this stuff. Just such a shame that it took Palin a week or two to denounce the notion of people shouting "kill him" at her rallies

there has always been bigotry on the other side....mccain is exploiting that negative to full advantage....what i find surprising is the fact that people of color and muslims are actually voting for that ticket...how must they feel when racial slurs and religious intolerance ring supreme at the rallies? are these people self-haters? it appears that the muslim americans only took offense when the attacks started to focus on religious intolerance but they were ok with all the other racial stuff that was going on....kinda like you are against racism but for homophobia and gender bias.....

i am trying to feel sorry for the mccain/palin supporters, but i cannot....you do not have to vote for obama, but if you are willing to cast that vote for someone who thinks you are lesser than, you deserve whatever comes to you...too bad, i just might have to suffer right along with you should the bigoted ticket wins.....and david, everyone is praising you for standing up to that racist bastard...good for you, but what the heck is possessing you to vote for mccain...do you hate yourself that much????? obama was hung in effigy (and he is not even prez yet)...if the muslim americans are ok with religious intolerance, you shouldnt be ok with racial intolerance....certainly being an other has always set you apart....good luck to you and your very poor choice for a candidate...

I agree with you Cher.

My family and I are all secular Muslim-Americans but we would NEVER support the republican ticket.

All republicans are not prejudiced but all the bigots I've ever met in my lifetime have been right-wingers.

My parents taught me to be respectful of ALL cultures not just my own. I wish everyone could have had parents like mine.

Come on. Twenty year olds at a McCain rally? Minorities too? I bet they're all plants. But, that McCain staff person was forreal.

Hard to believe right? In the words of David Letterman "this just stinks."

If the above video were actually a truthful depiction of what goes on at these rallies I would be cheering.

What is a little disconcerting is the McCain argument about a week ago stating that very few crazies are at his rallies (which is false, there are many documented crazies and bigots) and he tried to put forth the meme that his rallies are just as diverse and the "liberal media" is only focusing on the handful who cause problems.

Now, lo and behold! Check out this video that seems to fit the McCain script to a tee. Including all of the "normal" people running out this lone "extreme" person.

Ahhh....the republican manipulation at its best. Come on people. Do you really believe there are any Muslims in this country who agree with McCain's policies? Let alone show up at one of his rallies where they could face very real abuse from supporters. Hmmm I don't think so.
